So what happens if it doesn’t stop raining?

If Cincy can’t finish by Sunday, what happens? Just no winner? I’m assuming players like Fed will just pull out if it gets to the point where he has to play multiple matches in a day.

Really?

Wow, what a way to troll the American spectators 5 years in a row, weather.
In fact, the men's finals were scheduled for Monday in 2013 and 2014 to avoid that chaos, and thus ending the classical Super Saturday.

I mean it's at the point where they will have to play multiple matches in a day. There's 3 and a half days left with 4 rounds to go (5 for Del Potro and Chung) the fact it's a joint event only makes things harder as things can't just be rushed through. I'd imagine half the guys will pull out at some point in the next day or two, and whoever is left will fight over the title into early next week.

The weather is meant to be patchy rest of the week, right? No way they finish by Sunday. It seems unlikely they'll even have just the finals left for Monday looking at the forecast.

Also, if he can't get a match or two under his belt the next couple of days I bet Roger will be regretting not going to Canada.

Is Winston-Salem going to have their most stacked line up ever?

Would become problematic for the top players with the US Open starting just a few days later. Only the players who REALLY want to win the title would be prepared to stay as late as possible.

Now imagine what would rain cause to the Isner-Mahut match. They started playing their R1 match on Monday and finished on Wednesday.

If they were in the other half of the draw and started playing on Tuesday, then they would have finished on Thursday. Add one rainy day and they would have finished their first round match on Friday, the day where the players usually play R3 already.

I wonder what mess would that do to the scheduling.

A winner will be decided based on age, rank, usefulness.. to cut a long story short it's Fed. He was a stunned as you are which is why he asked for a recount, but blow me if it didn't turn out as fed again!

The US Open final of 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 got pushed to Monday.
The only Masters 1000 final that I remember it was played on Monday was in Rome 2012, Nadal d Djokovic 75 63.

I was about to say I seem to remember US Open finals got pushed to Mondays like 5 consecutive years lol.

If it never stops raining? Eventually, a wise person, or one so instructed, will build a vessel to survive the flooding.
Oh, you meant with respect to a tennis tournament.

I don't know how wise this person was, to load up a boat full of animals that are all part of the food chain. I'm going nowhere near that vessel. It'll probably help to wash the blood out first. ;)

Yeah I know it's happened with Wimbledon and the USO year after year to the point where I'm sure the 2012 final (or one of them at least) was just scheduled for a Monday from the start

Didn't recall if it had happened at masters level though

Finish by Monday or Tuesday. just make sure you get full refund for your tickets. nothing you can do about air fare and hotel.

Yes, seven years in a row on Monday.

From what I remember, when it was intentionally moved to Monday, it was somewhat of a ratings move - avoiding going up against American football on Sunday. Also, the Monday match started at 5:00 PM, with the hope of being finished before the Monday football game.

What is the tennis tournament you've attended where they give refunds ?

W&S has IMO a very poorly worded ticket rain policy (below) but it appears as if they don't do refunds.

(The reason I think it poorly worded is the first sentence implies there are situations in which refunds are given else why refer to when refunds are not given if you never get a refund ? Just say no refunds. However, the second sentence seems to close the door on refunds and makes clear the remedy is an exchange for a comparably priced ticket next year. The policy also addresses not only "Single Session" but series tickets as well (no exchanges with presumably no refunds but of course silent) so why do they call it "Single Session Ticket Rain Policy" and not "Rain Policy" is another mystery.)

"RAIN POLICY

Single Session Ticket Rain Policy

If a session is cancelled after one completed match on Center Court, no exchanges or refunds will be made. If a session is cancelled without the completion of one full match, holder is entitled to a ticket for the same price level for the same session the following year. Complimentary, series, box, suite, all-inclusive, sponsor and third party resale tickets WILL NOT be exchanged"

Finally
They will make a roof
This is the worst rain delayed masters event in some years

Doubt it. Could you retrofit the Cincinnati stadium with a roof without essentially tearing it down and starting over?

Hard to see how they would get their money back. Slam final ad revenue is a little more valuable than a Thursday night in Cincinnati.

It is possible without teardown....

The USTA owns 80% of the Cincy Masters so the rain burns the USTA again. :(

(It leases the WTA sanction for Cincy from Octagon, Inc., a sports agency)
