Sock help! and Nike Elite Tennis Sock

Greetings all! Just wondering if I could get some help regarding socks... I had been using the Nike Dri-fit Fly Rise socks (http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Nik...-Pack_Wh_Red_Grey/descpageMANIKE-NMFRCWR.html) and they were pretty solid, though since I have narrow feet and my right foot is 1/2 size smaller than my left foot I was still needing some extra thickness, so I tried out the Lebron HyperElite basketball socks and the Nike Stadium Crew socks.

Both of those socks had nice thickness, but felt realllly slippery and negatively impacted my movement, and I found myself still needing to repeatedly cinch my laces down really tight (esp on the R). I've heard that socks that are higher in synthetic fiber content (polyester, nylon) are more slippery, and the two I tried are almost all synthetic. The Fly Rise had ~30% cotton so perhaps that's why they were better...

Anyone tried the new Nike Elite Tennis Sock? http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Nik...ew_Sock_Volt_Black/descpageMANIKE-NETCVB.html

It also has ~30% cotton, wondering if people feel like it's slippery / how thick it is compared to other socks. Or, should I try to find those mostly cotton Nike socks that all the pros seem to wear?

Thanks very much!!

I have new elite tennis socks but only wore a few times so far.
I don't remember correctly but I did not notice too much slippery issue like usual Nike elite basketball socks.
Definitely it's shorter length then basketball socks except one style which was not released to public.
I felt that the socks are not too thick but not too thin. I am a little concerning about durability though.
BTW $18 per a pair is too much haha.

Regarding on pro players, I think Dimitrov still wears high % cotton material socks, nadal wears old style socks in new elite design and Federer also wears old style socks (Fed version: two socks) in new elite design.
I've seen some players with new elite tennis socks. Also I've seen pro exclusive socks in white color but never used it before so I don't know it has high % cotton material or similar to elite socks.

Ah interesting... thanks for replying! Anyone else tried the new Nike tennis Elites or have any thoughts?

I'm trying to decide which route to go down (Nike tennis Elites, vs predominantly cotton socks). I know it may seem small but slipping around in shoes --> restricted movement --> really hard to play well!

I've been playing with the Nike Tennis Elite Socks since they showed up at the US Open (I have about 10 pairs of them right now) and I'm a pretty big fan. I like that they are cut lower than the Basketball Dri-Fit Elite socks, which had been more or less the only sock I was wearing for a while. The tennis ones are definitely more of true crew sock for my height (5'10''). I don't find them slippery, and if they are slippery at first, washing them will probably fix that.

I do have a couple pairs of the Hyper Elite socks and agree they are quite slippery. Washing them a few times doesn't fix that and I have actually stopped wearing them, even though I really like some of the colors they come in.

It looks like the Tennis Eilte socks are 34% cotton, the Basketball Dri-Fit Elite are 15% cotton, and the Hyper Elite are 4%.

The Tennis Elite socks seem like they are a little bit softer, and maybe a tiny bit thinner than the Basketball Dri-Fit Elite ones, especially on the top of the foot. The padding on the top of the Basketball ones goes maybe to the middle of the foot, where on the tennis ones, the extra padding on the top stops closer to the toes. The padding pattern on the bottom I think it's pretty similar.

It's worth mentioning that the Basketball socks, depending on the color, do not all feel exactly the same. They're pretty close, but there can be some slight differences in how the material feels from color to color. I have a pair of gray/yellow/green basketball ones that are definitely softer than some of the other colors. And there was a pair of navy blue/white ones that were considerably larger than any of the others and were more like full tube socks. In the past year, I haven't seen any consistency issues with sizing from color to color, but I thought it was worth mentioning because I found it really annoying.

Between the two, I don't have a massive preference for the tennis ones over the basketball ones functionality wise. I find them both really good.

what size shoe do you wear and what size do you wear for the elite tennis socks? I normally wear a medium for nike socks with size 9 vapors and I've been thinking of buying a couple pairs of the elite tennis crews.

Good review. Mostly agree.

One more that basket ball elite socks were produced in multiple factories in all over the world so sometimes, they use slightly different fabric contents which might make different feeling.

One more. Size might be a little tighter than elite basketball in my opinion. I wear 7.5 shoes and I can go either M or L. L always a little more snug but Elite tennis L fits not bad.

I'm a 10.5 in the Vapors and always go large with the Tennis Elite Socks. They're just about a perfect fit.

I use Nike Elite socks and I don't notice any sliding or any impact on my movement, but it doesn't seem unreasonable that you might. If you really want the absolute paragon of cushion and grip, the Stance company (official sock of the NBA now) makes a sock that has as much cushioning as the Nike Hyper-Elites but also has rubber stripes on the bottom for grip. They look pretty unbelievable, but the lowest price I've ever found them for is $8 for a pair at TJ Maxx, etc... and that's just a little higher than I'm apt to pay.
Also if you just need some extra cushioning you can always just wear two pairs of socks. When I don't wear my thicker Elite socks I just double up on regular Nike dri-fit crew socks and it feels great.

Had my first hit with these yesterday. They feel great. Don't necessarily think they are worth the $18/pair, but I bought mine from sale recently from TW. I've never tried the basketball elites, but these slide around a lot less than the 3 pack cushioned crews and they feel more comfortable too.

Size L is just about a perfect fit for me. Love the length on this compared to other crew socks.

I just got my new Tennis Elite's today, didn't get to hit (darn rain) but wore them in my tennis shoes to the gym and they felt really nice, good cushioning but still with maintained ground feel, don't seem to slip either! I'll report back when I hit with them. I wear a size 8.5 shoe (Lotto Raptor EVO) and the M size sock fit my feet perfectly.
