I will be in this area 3/16-22nd. Can anyone direct me to some public courts where a 4.0-4.5 player can pick up a match. Any tennis public tennis centers with "drop in" doubles night for example. Thanks!

The places I can recommend are in Cupertino and Sunnyvale: De Anza College tennis courts, Memorial Park, Valley Church. I've been told that there's quite a few people that play at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale. I don't know if there's 'drop in' doubles at Las Palmas Tennis Center in Sunnyvale. Also, if you put up an activities ad in Craigslist, you should find some people to hit with.

Do you need to be a student or something to play at the De Anza courts? I haven't tried there - is it open to the public?

I usually play in Palo Alto, around Mitchell Park or Stanford area. Sometimes in Mountain View if anyone's around that area.

^ no, although the lights shut off at 8pm. also, it's the men's tennis season and they have matches on tuesdays and thursdays? lastly, you can try to not pay for the daily parking permit (it's $2) but the campus police roam around every so often and will give you a ticket (that's $31).

I'll be in the Los Altos/San Jose area from March 21 for 10 days if anyone wants to hit. I'm around a 4.5 player.
Please let me know.
Thanks,
Rick.

I'll be in San Jose next week from 5/12-5/16... looking for 4.0-4.5 singles or doubles. I used to play at the Las Palmas Tennis Center back in '96 so will probably head there in the evenings.

If you drive a bit further west, you can go to:

Mango Park
Valley Church courts
Memorial Park
De Anza College

We typically play at Memorial or Valley at night; let me know if you'd like to hit. I can bring other people as well for doubles and singles play.

Yeah, I'll have a car so anything in the South Bay should be within 15-20 mins. I seem to recall that De Anza College courts are a good place for pick-up games in the evenings.

I plan on playing at least twice (Tue/Thu) since those days the Celtics don't have games scheduled.

I see the address for Memorial Park on tennismaps.com, where's Valley Church located?

Ah, heh, no PMs, welp, I'll have to chance it then: 425-785-5321.

I've arrived in Milpitas... woke up @ 8:30AM to a nice little backup on 237 :???:

What time of day is best to travel to tennis destinations in the evening? Should it be a problem getting somewhere after 6?

From my experience people don't really do pickup or hit with random strangers. You can hop in and ask to play double if the party have odd number. I think a lot of people either prefer to hit with their friends or just self-conscious hitting with strangers. Your best bet is probably contact someone prior and then meet up with them at the courts.

I'll be traveling to Santa Clara next week (M 12/15 - Th 12/18).

The closest tennis "center" is the Decathlon Club. Anyone have experience with setting up play or a drill here for a non-member?

4.0/4.5

Thanks.

I am a high 4.0, low 4.5 live in the East Bay (Danville) and have my office in Santa Clara. I was a sectionally ranked junior many, many years ago and I am just getting back after a very long hiatus. Strokes and power still there, but working to get my consistency back to be competitive at 4.5 level.

I am always looking for good sparring partners for evening tennis and weekends. ethan@musemediacenter.com
