TennisProdigy’s 28 lb Weight Loss in 10 Weeks (Before & After)

This year at the citi open I weighed in at about 180 lbs. I achieved my career high weigh of 188 lbs a couple days after getting married in California, weighing in at 188 lbs.

I decided to start my transformation and I began working out during my honeymoon on September 24th. Max 3 push ups, one chin up, 0 pull ups, and could run .25 miles at most without stopping.... I had some work to do.

Consistently working out was the toughest part as my body would be extremely sore even after basic 15-30 min workouts. To prevent injuries the best that I could, I would work our daily, targeting different muscle groups, for 15-45 minutes and stretch 15-25 min folllowing.

The most important part to successfully lose weight is dieting. After some research i determined that a 16/8 interrmittent fasting diet would be best for me. Started IF on October 1st, and in addition, I cleaned up my diet cutting out refined sugars, fast food, and processed food as much as possible.

The first few weeks were difficult, even though I was eating 2500-3000 calories daily, my body craved sugar and other bad foods it was used to eating. Fortunately, my willpower pulled through and after a month or so of IF, I never felt hungry, and never again craved sugar or other bad foods.

To help get me through I kept one food in my diet that I love to eat, chips. Although I opt for healthier varieties compared to the kettle, salt and vinegar, and flaming hot Cheetos that I love.

Ive also added 1 tbsp. Apple cider vinegar, 1.5 tbsp. Coconut oil, 2 eggs, 1/2 avocado, raw honey, 6-8 grams collagen peptides into my daily diet.

Added a good bit of muscle, and in 10 weeks time went from 188 lbs to 160.5 lbs.

Great work! One general question: when people take the body fat pictures, are they supposed to suck in the gut and flex the abs or just let it loose?

Hmm I don’t know if there’s a general rule, but for a before/after picture I would think you’d want to show the most dramatic change possible.

So the before picture ideally just stand naturally, no flexing no “sucking in,” no “pushing out.”

Then in the after picture don’t “suck in,” but flexing would be acceptable.

In the vid above, I’m standing naturally in the before pictures and I am flexing in the after picture.

Did you change your lifestyle permanently? In other words, are you planning on eating decently and exercising as a matter of lifestyle or was this simply a weight loss diet only (and then back to the lifestyle that made you overweight and out of shape)?

I’m aiming to raise my game to around a 6.0 level, so I’ll be keeping this healthy lifestyle for at least 2 years.

And I only got fat when I was doing a computer game challenge for about 8 months, I would play about 12 hours a day for 4-5 days a week often eating McDonald’s breakfast and a $5 fill up box from KFC for lunch.

You seem to be a man of extremes. All in or all out.

Yes u could say that xD

But my tennis progression will continue the next 18 years even if I don’t hit 6.0 in 2 years.

Got my first kid coming in February and I plan to train him to be a D1 caliber player, if I can reach that level then I’ll be able to teach everything leading up to that level.

What if your child prefers knitting to tennis?

Hmm. From a game theory perspective, locking in your mate for life at the moment your attractiveness bottoms out is theoretically a suboptimal strategy. Or maybe that was a test? (If she loves me when I'm fat, then she must be the one.)

Bollettieri not even 4.0 player, yet trained Agassi and Courier :)

True, but Nick has knowledge of game that far exceeds what I know.

Spoken like a true non-parent :)

Haha you got me there xD To be fair if it was up to me I would make him play either soccer, tennis, or basketball (since I’m advanced in all three of those sports), but my wife said she wants him to play tennis so I said he’ll play soccer, basketball, and tennis up to age 12 then focus on tennis only if he shows potential.

We’ve been together for 10 years since senior year of high school. At this point she couldn’t care less what I look like lol.

Nice catch. Are you a fisherman? Did you eat that?

2.8 pounds loss per week sounds bit extreme. I think the guideline is 1 pound per week.

Thx, this calico was the only good catch during my entire 10 day wedding/honeymoon. Fishing is one of my top 3 hobbies. Did not eat it, just weighed it and released, it was 5 lbs 10 oz.

Yes 2.8 lbs a week is a bit extreme, but it was not my intention. I ate 2,500-3,000 calories everyday which is more than enough at my height of 5’7”.

Yeah, that was my point, that the UTR level of a coach/trainer doesn't matter that much in many cases... Uncle Toni is another good example...

The opinion that a coaches tennis playing level has anything to do with their ability to teach strokes and footwork (technical) has never made any sense to me. Even with tactics and strategy, simply teach how the best play. Where I see the greatest potential value is sharing important "been there, done that ... this worked, that didn't" feedback.

Richard Williams not really a tennis player but he trained the Venus first and then Serena! Both are way above either of the two above males in terms of tennis greatness. They won many GS double titles too!

I get what you guys are saying, but as a self taught player myself with only internet knowledge that has shaped my game, I feel like I need to actually go through the motions, and learn what is actually required to play at a high level in order to teach important high level strokes, footwork mechanics, strategy, Ect.

I’ve played matches vs. 5.5 and 6.0 players before, I’ve tried returning 130 mph flat serves and 80-90 mph kick serves, and the difference in ability comparing me vs. them made me almost feel like we’re playing a different sport.

Bill Belichick never played Pro level football. He started his NFL career as a gopher! Look at him now! Not only is he a Super Bowl winning head coach but a GM of football operations. I stick with the Nick Bollettieri, Richard Williams, Hingis mother’s training resume and not become an accomplish tennis player unless you want to be that for yourself not your kid sake.

A coach can't teach or destroy talent. Nadal was going to win majors if all anyone did was drive him to juniors tournaments. I wasn't going to be better than 4.5-5.0 even if I had Cahill and Gilbert as coaches starting in 1st grade. My favorite is the worship of college basketball and football coaches that get the top recruits year after year. How bad a coach would you have to be to make Kansas and Duke freshmen and sophmores lose?

There are always exceptions to the rule, I may be wrong but I feel like if you compared most atp/wta players who had a parent as their primary coach most of those parents prob would have reached at least a 5.0 level.

But yeah I want to reach a high level for myself, I didn’t go through this difficult effort of losing 28+ lbs for nothing!

I think talent needs to be nurtured. Of course Nadal was going to be an incredible athlete no matter what he did, but he did start the game playing with two hands on both sides...

If no one taught him the correct grips and guided him to learn flawless technique idk if you can say he’d be winning majors no matter what.

On clay ... yeah, he would have won majors with any grip. The main grip they should have worked on was his taint tug grip. :p:p:p

So you are running out of the ocean with a fish in your hands and no fishing pole. WTF. You caught that sucker with your bare hands didn't you? ;)

You can tune your game, but you can't tune that fish.

Lol, I may have the speed of a 6.0 player, but I’ll never have the speed to catch a lively fish barehanded :p

I was fishing off some rocks way out there and left my pole on it

Work with me here ... ttw needs a legend.

"Yes ... I caught that fish with my bare hands on the first try. I used continental grip with the right hand, and eastern with left. My legs were strong enough to split step in water up to my waist, and setup for contact (grab) in an open stance."

You are going to need a writer.

You're so ****ing deluded, everyone knows you can only reach peak fitness with the 10km/100 pushups/100 situps/100 squats EVERY SINGLE DAY routine. Stop letting your dreams be dreams and holding yourself back from being a 6.0 tennis player.

The more appropriate goal is to be competitive with your 5.0 friend within 2 years.
Your 5.0 friend bageled you and he was not even going all out. How can you possibly reach 6.0 in 2 years? :(

Reasonable goals are boring, I like going for the extreme.

In addition to my tennis goals and raising my first child in 2019, I’m thinking about trying to earn a 7 digit income for the first time in my life.

Wrong. Any tennis-related clip of the legend sureshs is worth at least 1-1.5 billion. Sadly, without permission and ownership rights to this golden content, it would be unwise to try to monetize it ourselves...
