Thank You Serena

Unquestionably one of the greatest athletes, champions and fighters in sporting history. Though I may not have agreed with some of the things that happened during your career, and I stand by those, it was still a pleasure to see you come up through the ranks to create a legacy that will live on forever. I've have watched you live many times, and found myself getting infected by your grit, determination and simply your will to survive. At your absolute peak, I have no doubt that no other female player would have rivalled you, I say this having watched four decades of tennis champions, and if I had to pick one who played at the highest level I have ever seen, it was you.

Thank you for all those moments, it was never a dull time when you were around, whether that was good or bad, you made me want to watch. You've earned your rest and your place in history, trailblazed your way to a legacy that will shine on for a very long time. I don't believe in GOATs, but you will always be in every single conversation for not just who was the greatest female in tennis, but in all of sport.

I don't like WTA Tennis. I never watched it except for Henin. But really Serena had got game that was definitely far above WTA standards. She could have competed well on men's tour. Women's GOAT..

This is one of my favorite pictures of Serena.

To me the most sweetest thing will always be Richard Williams taking pictures of his daughters with his SLR camera and zoom lens, just a regular dad proud of his kids. He'd do this everywhere they played. I wonder how many pictures he must have captured lol.

Sometimes if you can't say something good, it's better to say nothing. This is one of those times.

On the eve of a player's retirement, whether we like Serena or not, I hope we can muster the grace to be respectful.
Sorry but this is too pious and superior for a tennis forum. Serena won’t read this and this is not a private eulogy but a public forum. Better you just use the ignore function and read the posts that you approve of.

She is one of the greatest ever tennis players, her statistics speak for themselves.

I can't compare Margaret Court to Serena Williams as they played in totally different eras, differences in rackets, surfaces, prominence and publicity, serve and volley was the only way the majority of the tour played.

Tennis today is a more physical sport, a sport with more diverse styles and if you look at the last 23 years since Steffi Graf retired, Serena has been Queen of the castle.

You could spend your energy responding to negative posts too, but then here you are, lecturing the lecturer. Why did you not ignore my post?;)

I became a diehard tennis fan because of the Williams sisters, so this once defend-to-the-end Serena fan will thank her for that.

But I'm so glad it's all over...more so to bring an end to the fakeness of the past week: Commentators who never liked Serena giving her gushy over-the-top praise; fans who never liked Serena cheering wildly at every point she wins (while looking up at the jumbo screen to see if they're on it); celebrities jockeying to sit in her player's box for the publicity...

She's one of the most extraordinary athletes in the entirety of sport. You simply can't dispute this.

That's just one of four...

Love her or loathe her there can be no doubt she and her sister carved a unique path for themselves in the annals of tennis history. 30 singles Slams between them!! You can't ever take that away from them!!!
Lance got all his medals and trophies taken away. So did Marion.

Respect her because she's retiring or because you said so?

Never been a fan really but I stayed up until 4am to watch her match. It’s cool to see somebody play who was active when Sampras was pretty much in his prime. The good old days
