Elbow injury. Last year his BH was pretty good. Especially on clay. But after that elbow surgery, it got progressively worse. Now it is a disaster.

His backhand is great on slower surfaces. He has a large take back and with enough preparation his backhand can be deadly. Similar to Stan. Roger for example, adjusts his take back on fast surfaces and is able to hit through balls that Stef ends up slicing. This isn't just a problem with 1hbhs. Andre learned this same lesson on his way to winning Wimbledon from Mac.

Yeah it is way too loopy to be reliable under pressure. He needs to learn how to hit a compact version of it.
