Why does Nadal NOT do it from the beginning? Even on 1st serves, why stand so far back for a guy who is serving less than 120 mph average? This is not Isner or Karlovic.

Nike paired RF with Tiger and pretend they were close friends but I have not seen both of them together in any social public events. I don't know if they are friends for Nike only or they are real friends or even acquaintances now! I other words; do they talk to one another?

I think Fed once claimed they didn't have any contact after Tiger's scandal while he befriended Rafa actually after his scandal, Rafa had defended him to the press before though however

Cilic indeed played very well from the middle of the first set till the beginning of the third. But he was allowed to play so aggressively by Nadal with his deep court position. Once Nadal made that adjustment in set 3 the match completely changed in his favor. But he also stepped it up a notch in intensity. Very good performance from Nadal in the last 2 sets. Maybe he needed this mini scare.

I think if Nadal loses the first set to Federer in the final, that could be a big blow to Nadal's confidence and he might end up doing the Cilic tactics from sets 1 and 2 and staying in the back of the court. Nadal is a confidence player and he'll need that first set to get his engine going otherwise he's going to feel a lot more weight on his shoulders if Federer gets into a groove.

I do agree with you! If fed and Rafa meet in final, that 1st set is vital! As both guys are brilliant front runners!

I am hoping there won't be a Nadal-Federer final because it is too stressful for me. I only love one of the two and really dislike the other one so it becomes too difficult (unless of course Nadal is winning!) (; I really am hoping for a Nadal-Medvedev final! :)

But on the other hand.... If Rafa beats Federer in the final it would be sooooo sweet, wouldnt it? I guess all the stress would feel like its worth it. Im kind of still not over the 2013 final hahahaha That was so stressful even though he won. My heartbeat raises just writing this.

Anyhow, I will survive another final sober. lol
Rafas grandma did Valium though to cope w stressful matches as her doc meant when she watched him it would be a risk for a heart attack.

Fortunately they re-broadcast the final so I watch the whole match when Rafa wins finals! This rule only applies for me when he plays Roger and nobody else! (;

Still a long way from Safin, though, the GRSOAT could crack a racquet just by looking at it funny.

Crowning moment of awesome: Safin-Lapentti, Montecarlo 2009. After blowing a 4-0 lead in the third, Safin casually throws his racquet slowly spinning and sliding over the clay court. On light contact with the bench, the racquet simply explodes in a glorious mess of sticks and strings. Completely out of a manga, I can't find it on YT, but it should be uploaded and stickied on every tennis forum out there.
