What shoes to wear after tennis

Not sure if this is the right place for this post.

Anyway, I don't like flip-flop but do like to switch out my tennis shoes as soon as I am done playing. Any recommendation for a pair of shoes with great cushion for walking after a few hours of hard court tennis?

Thanks in advance.

in summer I go with adidas adilette slides or birkenstock clogs after tennis, in winter I slip on a pair of running shoes.

Thanks, everyone for the inputs. The Nike and K-swiss look great. I will check them out. I also should have clarified, I need to travel in NYC subway and walk around in the city so I prefer shoes that will fit securely. I am always nervous about any open toe configuration with broken glasses, etc. I know it doesn't bother others, just my own paranoia. Great recommendations anyways.

We're big fans of wearing the least structured shoe you can be comfortable and safe with given the circumstances in which you wear them. Be barefoot as much as possible, which you obviously can't do moving around NYC.

Love the 'minimalist' shoes out there like nike frees, and the new offerings now from reebok, new balance, adidas, etc... In that same genre. LOVE the Vibram FiveFingers.

try to wear shoes that let a foot move the way a foot is designed to move. The foot and ankle will get progressively stronger and you'll progressively feel less and less need for 'cushioning and support'.

leaving the same shoes on isn't common sense.

Tennis shoes are necessarily very structured shoes. They provide good stability, and the trade off is they limit the movement of the foot. Wear tennis shoes when you play tennis. Wear as less-structured a shoe as you can get away with when you're off the court.

Personally? After I play I like to get home and walk around in the back yard barefoot in the grass. Let my feet breathe and spread back out and move again through their full range of motion.

Nothing wrong with wearing the same shoe after u played. I wear my Nike tennis shoes as a daily shoe, ie; to work, shopping, running, etc.. Have been doing this for the last 20+ yrs.

Some of you don't wear your tennis shoes to the courts / away from the courts?

have I been doing it wrong all this time? :D it's not like the shoes will degrade from that extra travel time or anything...

After playing, my socks are generally soaked, and my shoes (depending on the temperature) are at least damp. Makes sense to get the shoes off and let your feet breathe.

If I don't have to walk too much, and it's hot, I love the Adidas slide-style sandals (much more comfortable than flip flops). If you want to protect your feet, the Crocs are great, but they do look a bit silly. What I like best about both is that they don't absorb sweat and stink. The Crocs in particular can be washed quickly with regular dish soap and get literally squeaky clean.

I recently played in a tourney and had a brunch with the in-laws directly afterward, so I had to shower at the club hosting the tournament. Wore the Crocs right into the shower as "shower sandals" to prevent athlete's foot, and even kept them on for brunch (it was pretty informal, and at an in-law's house). Got to like that kind of versatility. According to the wikipedia page, Crocs were originally developed as spa shoes, which I presume to be essentially the same thing as "shower sandals". Anyway, if you are already looking for something to keep in the bag to change into, having something that can do "double duty" if you need to catch a shower at some point is an added plus.

As I said above, tennis shoes are an inherently highly structured shoe. We want and need that stability while we're on the court. But as in most things, we have a trade-off here. The more stable a shoe is, the less flexible it will be. Your feet are designed to move in a variety of ways, and to stay as healthy and functional as possible, you WANT them to move in these ways on a consistent basis. The more you limit the movement of your feet, the less healthy and functional they will be. It's just like any joint or body structure. The more you move it the way it's designed to be moved, the healthier and stronger it becomes. The more you limit that movement, the more your foot will NOT be as strong and healthy as it can be.

From a bio-mechanical standpoint, I would not recommend wearing tennis shoes as one's predominant footwear. Wear a shoe that lets the foot move more the way a foot is designed to move. The foot/ankle complex will get stronger, posture overall will get stronger, and then performance will improve when you do wear your tennis shoes on the court and you'll be at reduced risk of injury.

I'm going to throw in the adidas Boat shoes. They're called the mi Boat CC - light, low to the ground, super breathable, and you don't even have to tie the laces if you get easy-laces or something like that. Just slide them on and enjoy. The perfect apres-match slipper...

Oh, they do look a bit odd, but I like that too...

Grabbed a pair at the outlets for $19, they are very comfy.

Looks doesn't do it for me but it does look comfy; like a pair of padded sock with a sole.

Normally I put my Nike Pegasus 27 running shoes back on if that is what I was wearing before. If I want to take my socks off, I put my rockport slides on with the super comfy soft soles...very good for the feet.
