What do u guys do to get ready for an early morning match? There's not enough time to eat a large breakfast, but you need something to fuel your body for the upcoming match. Any tips on what you can eat say an hour before your match?

thanks

Banana and carbs..like pancakes..waffles..maybe pasta if you can eat that in the AM. Drink lots of water the day before of course as well.

what else is good for carbs?

Seriously? You don't know where to gain carbs from? First and foremost, google the difference between complex carbs and other carbs. You'll want the complex carbs, not the refined processed crap. Any nutrition guide will give you your recommended daily dosage of all of the necessary nutrition you need.

tennis magazine recommends to get some carbs and protein the night before as well. For example, some pasta, with your choice of sauce, with chicken

For a 'quick' spontaneous pregame thingy,...power bars or any of those quick 'food bars' get into your system fast, digest fast, and they're highly fortified,.....if the match is long tho,...blood sugar could drop precipitously as it burns off,...

1/2 cup oatmeal
1 whole egg, 2 egg whites, sprinkle of cheddar cheese
water

Get a balance of protein, carbs, and fat. Don't over carb in the morning right before the match. Its more what you eat the day before your match. If you feel carbing up helps you it should be done the day before.

I've had good luck with oatmeal in the morning before a morning match. Good for a sustained release of energy as opposed to sugary foods that give you the quick boost and then the crash.

That's actually the out-of-date food pyramid purchased by the grain industry from the Department of Agriculture.

Oatmeal...3-4 hard boiled egg whites...bagel w/ or w/out cream cheese

need slow digesting carbs

Seriously would not eat that much before an early morning match unless I had 90 mins or more to digest it. I'd go lighter -- oatmeal, banana, OJ and a single egg. Better to carbo-load with pasta the evening before to jack up the glycogen storage.

For early morning matches or clinics I have found, through trial and error, that I actually perform best in a fasted state. Nice even energy throughout--no crashes. YMMV.

Well, no one said early morning match.

You should always have slow-digesting carbs and breakfast should be your biggest meal no matter what you're doing that day.

And of course you should have at least a few hours to digest...

Packet of oatmeal and some egg whites aren't bad.

Oatmeal don't spoil. Make a pot of old-fashioned oats or Wheatena. Nuke a bowl daily. Or just smash Weetabix

Meh-

My point was that it isn't hard to find where to "get carbs" per the OP. I at first thought it was an absolutely ridiculous question and retyped my response many times so as to not get banned from the site. My final answer was to link him to a food pyramid as reference.

This is interesting that you discovered this because i have been experimenting similarly. Last friday i consumed about 80 g of carbs, sat morning i had 3 eggs w/ a little cheese at about 10 am, didnt get to eat again until 4 pm, had about 1/4 lb of cajun turkey and 1 whole avacado. So 80 g of carbs friday, then about 10-15 g carbs sat, then played from 6-8 sat eve. I was full of energy, the tennis was quite intense, and i finished feeling stronger than when we started. easily could have kept that up another hour or more i felt like.

In college, I would have half a whole wheat bagel, half a banana, and black coffee about 45 minutes before the match. Coffee and banana have a laxative effect, so I ate it early enough so I could take care of that problem if it arose. It worked okay I guess. Mostly, more than having energy, I was concerned with not having weird stomach issues from a big greasy breakfast during the match, so I kept it really simple.

Seriously I had a huge amount of chicken, peas carrots with potato and then ate a piece of chocolate cake and smoked my opponent 2,1 and 1. I never had chocolate cake before a match ans probably never will again but I felt great, lol.

12 grain bread with white egg, some bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese.

Orange Juice.

Mix up a protein-creatine shake to take to the match, water, and banana gel.

Heh. Tomorrow is going to be the "morning before a match" for me! I play at 11, and that'll be pretty early for a night owl.

I'll probably poach some eggs and put them atop some toasted English muffins! Oh, and smother some hollandaise sauce on them! And bacon on the side!

An egg, a protein shake, and a banana. I've found lately that getting enough protein in the morning is very helpful.
