I'm wondering where his ranking goes from his results so far in Wimbledon. Is it top 20?

Let's see!!!

He has gained 450 entry points * if he has already advanced to the semifinals, mind you I don't know* (Possible spoiler)

His current ranking is at 75 (530 pts), he was defending 75 pts (3rd round) a semifinal appearance would bring his total to a robust 905 pts and within the top 30.

Moose???

Nope, it will be top 40 at most, maybe he will scrape into 39.

Umm.. No, because his point total will tie him with Ljubicic at #31, but Ljubicic lost in the 1st round and was defending 3rd round points (75 pts). I am not sure of the other players performaces, because it's too much work but Safin will be close to the top 30.

Safin was defending 3rd rd pts as well so losing in the SF will only add 375 pts to get him to 905.

Ljubicic's rank right now, as of today is 38...

You got me a little excited their, saying he would be near top 30 :D, cause he sure as hell isn't beating Federer...

I absolutely love Safin but the sad thing is that in around a year from now, when wimby finishes, he will probably be out of the top100 for good.

I am sure there will be a few bandwagon threads started after this tournament on how Marat is going to take the USopen etc but how many times have we seen a player struggle all season, fail to defend a large amount of points and they just fall down the ranks. We have even seen it happen Safin himself once or twice and I am pretty sure it will happen again. He wont produce many other good results between now and next Wimby, he will have to defend this years points, will surely fail to do so and therefore his ranking will plummit. I may be going too far here but I predict USopen 09 could be his last slam, and maybe last tournament. His ranking will have fallen, he will only have had one good tournament in about 3 years (this wimby), he will be almost 30 and I think he will have had enough.

Come on now, I don't expect him to beat Federer on grass. But he doesn't have many points to defend during the 2nd half of the season so he could finish the season in the top 20. Then again, Safin is always reliable to disappoint.

His old ranking was 75
His new after tonight is 39 or 40 with 905 points. It all depends on Shuettler.

For a seeding at the USO,as he said he would like,he must get ranked in the top 32 after the Olympics.

Yes but why did he slip down? Injury. After 2000 he had torn ligaments somewhere, can't remember where so it took a bit of momentum out, so he slipped out top 10 (no big deal), in 2003 he had several injuries, shoulder back and the awful wrist injury. 2005 in the clay season suffered knee injury and prolonged it by playing through it for months and months. So it has all been down to injury.

But what people say now back to that is "oh but he was playing bad anyway", uh...no he wasn't.

Well the great thing for Safin now is that he will probably be much more confident, so we will be sure to see some better results, surely!

OMG I can already see the bandwagon threads starting now! Its like last October/November all over again when everyone expected Nalbandian to take over the world!

Marat is not much different to David, they are both unbelievably talented but never fullfilled that talent, clearly Safin and has done the better of the two but he always has and always will fail to produce consistency.

If he is playing Federer in the semis, I will be supporting Roger, but only just, I absolutely love Safin. But, I will be very scared for Federer, I dont care what surface. I could definitely see him winning. But as I have said, it will go no further than this tournament.

As of now Safin has 905 points and will either be ranked 39th if Schuettler loses or 40th if Schuettler wins.

Getting to the final would put him on 1155 points and 21st place. Winning the whole shebang would vault him up to 12th (1455 points). All this assuming that Nadal gets to the final. If either Clement/Schuettler win it then he would be one place down from 21st/12th.
