Why are there no ATP tournaments in Australia during the Asian tour?

I think at this time, it's Spring in Australia. So the weather wouldn't be a problem. I think very little is played there. Okay, there is already a Grand Slam there, but why not take advantage of the Asian Tour, so we can have one or two tournaments in Australia. Maybe an ATP 500 in Perth, that would be really cool

Where and when exactly though? Players already make a very long trek post slam season to the far east, and China is an emerging market that will pull in the players. So where and when exactly, especially now with a 12 day masters in the mix?

After Shanghai. I think Perth would be a better place

And what about the Indoor Season and getting ready for Paris and Turin? Many would want to get back to Europe for Basel and Vienna also.

I think it would compete with Stockholm and Antwerp. I think it would favor Australian and Asian tennis players, and attract some Americans and Europeans who wanted to enjoy Australia a little more.

I don't know, they are on complete opposite sides of the world, more jetlag to deal with when coming back for the bigger Basel/Vienna and Paris events which are all 500 or 1000s. Too much travel late into the season when everyone is tired. The European Indoor season is designed to allow players not to have too many time extended trips between events, and having said that, countries like Sweden and Belgium need to be able to attract players also.

Personally I think there should be something post AO for any players to want to play on Perth or another city, it doesn't all need to end with AO.

It takes as long to fly from Beijing or Shanghai to Australia (10 hours direct to Sydney/Melbourne or 1-stop to Perth) as it does to fly back to Paris or Frankfurt. European players who are the bulk of the tour have been away for 3-4 weeks in Asia already for the Japan/China swing and don’t probably want to take long flights to spend another week on the road.
