Why Is my Dad More Muscular Than Me Even Though I'm Stronger?

Why is it that my dad is more muscular-looking than I am even though I'm more active than him, and am noticeably stronger than him? I'm 19, so is it just because he's older and more developed or what? When would I be fully mature in terms of overall physical development, because I'm pretty sure I'm done growing in terms of height?

You won't "fill out" until you have enough male hormones to support muscular development. Boys bulk up after they finish their growth spurt. And then, not overnight either.

Patience is a virtue!

How do you know you are stronger than your dad? A lot of kids think that. ;) Have you benched together? What about clean and jerk, deads, one arm curls, squats?

even then, whoever has done that particular lift is often better because of CNS recruitment.

but if both have done the lift enough for the form to be great, i guess that would work.

Given that I had to compensate for him while lifting the sofa and he benched half of what I do, I'm pretty sure I'm stronger.

Nothing says father son moment like benching some heavy weights.

What's clean and jerk?

something gym owners would prefer you didnt do. I can just see a nice big happy face when you drop it after a rep.:)

It depends how old you are. Your dad was most likely stronger / worked out in the past. He has that muscle memory / mass still there. Maybe not the strength because he hasn't been exersizing.

If both of you were to workout the same way together he would gain much more strength much faster than you would.

My guess anyway . ..

I'm 19, so by what age should I be done being fully developed? Ugh, it's really irritating. I'm already a midget height-wise (5 foot 6), so I need my muscles now so that I can actually get a girlfriend haha. This process is way too slow.

At 19 you should be developed. I think what would say more is if you were to post your height / weight / and BF. I was always pretty skinny and a hard gainer (HARD to put on mass). When I was 19 (sophmore in college) I decided to bulk up and I went from 5"10 @ 150ish lbs to 170 lbs. My BF went from 8% to 11%. I was still able to clearly see my abs at the end of the bulk. I didn't even eat that healthy. I had to eat about 7K calories a day and the only way I could do that was by eating fast food once a day (post workout). I don't advocate that but im just telling the truth.

So you just have to look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself what you want to change. Are you too thin or do you just not have definition??

If you want to gain mass you need to workout and EAT. Then once you achieve the size you wan't to be at more or less you can start balancing out and working on losing fat.

LMFAO! That's true about the father/son thing. I have two sons, and I must say we did lift a lot of iron, and both boys wrestled heavyweight and were very strong. The youngest is 6'5" and about 250 lbs today, though he's a bit out of shape he's still very strong. He was curling 85 pounders at the gym last week and I was doing 40! :(

Ok, that's it for my tribute to Mary Travers passing.

Probably has a lot to do with you being, you know, NINETEEN. Do you not understand the concept of why youth is so valuable?
