Although I'm sure that there are some Fed fans who insist that he's the only Tier 1 GOAT and some Rafa fans who think he's tier 1, I think most of us agree that currently Rod, Sampras and Fed are tier one GOAT's. Do you think by the time he retires, Nole will be deserving of a place there as well- whether by winning a Calender Slam or winning 15 slams or some combination of them?

Not so sure of Sampras in tier 1 (No french open you see...cant be a great player with such a gaping hole in ~40% of season). At best we can call him a Non-clay tier 1 GOAT.

Otherwise your post is spot on.

I dont think Djokovic will be a Tier 1 GOAT.

sure, although i consider Rafa to be there as well. people can cry achievements all they want, Rafa and fed are arguably 2 of the best players ever, and I'm not the only one who thinks that.
truth is, if you asked those people you name in your t1/2/3 lists they would tell you the same.

as far as for Novak goes, I have no doubt in my mind he will be up there once all is said and done.

To be tier 1 GOAT he will have to have a Laver, Fed, Sampras, Rosewall, Pancho career. Rididculous longevity of winning and/or Double digit slams or better and/or 5 or more years at #1 etc.

No way will Nole come close to that. Tier 2 tops

Nole winning CYGS in 2013 is not an impossibility but chances are extremely thin (No one has done that since Laver, not even Mighty Fed or Fighter Rafa).
Still I see Nole winning total 10-12 slams, which will make him 2nd tier GOAT in my opinion, if such a thing exists.

P.S. - Why do you need to spoil the thread by including Connors in Poll options?

Talk Tennis Tradition:confused: :) Well it's not like anyone voted for him anyway.

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

I think that Nadal will outperform Djokovic in the years to follow. So I do not think so, in my opinion. He's a great player, no doubt about it.

I think he will. He'll make it to 8 or (likely?) more slams and he's beaten plenty of other all-time great players to get there. I think his overall resume of tournament wins, delivering a Davis Cup win to a small nation, No. 1 ranking, and Slam total will put him firmly in the first tier.

I'm not saying that 8 slams is definitively first tier, and 7 isn't, as there are more than just Slam totals at issue. McEnroe (7), for example, is sometimes put in the first tier, and no one will ever agree completely about who belongs where.

But, there does seem to be consistent, broad agreement that players like Becker and Edberg, with 6 slams, are second tier, and, therefore, there's a quiet acknowledgement that the first tier starts above 6.

I have Borg and Nadal as Tier 1 as well. Thus Djokovic, to enter this bracket, has to win 11+ slams (i.e. another 5 from now onwards).

I think he will fall just short, and will be top of Tier 2, just ahead of Lendl and Connors.

If he gets to 10 slams, 150+ weeks as #1, possibly all the masters etc...I think he will be still be a bit short of tier one. I think to be tier 1 you either need to have a crazy amount of achievements or an x factor. Like Borg's channel slams or Nadal's dominance on clay which IMO puts them at the bottom of tier 1.

I voted Tier 2. I just don't see his body holding up.

And while not as mentally weak as Murray (by a long shot!) he's not at Fed or Nadal's level; thus I could see a few bad losses getting to him.

I think minimum requirement to be considered amongst the all-time greats is double digit slam count. Will Novak get 4 more? I think it's 50/50.

Yes he will, and I think he will get there very quickly.

He is going to beat all the records and won a calendar slam this year.I mean people can think what ever they want he will beat Nadal pretty comfortably tomorrow and Cincinnati will be the only masters tournament he never won.
