Wilson Clash Paint Chipping

Calling any Wilson Clash users...Does anyone else have issues with the crappy paint on your Wilson Clash racquets? I am extremely careful with my racquets but I have noticed tons of chips with both of my Wilson Clash 100's. Either the paint is super thin or the quality control is horrible. Does anyone know where you can get some type of touch up paint for them? TIA

No one above answer this question. You have several options. If you can find Sharpies in those shades, great. Nail polish works, both glossy and non-glossy if you can find the color. [Be weird and bring the racquet and your SO/GF with you if you want to buy nail polish. :happydevil: In my area, SFBA, it would not be weird, but I try to bring the GF anyway.] Auto touch-up paints will also work, but are the hardest to match.

If your gears wear out faster, you would be more likely to update to the new iteration. I think that is what Wilson want.

Great idea on the nail polish...Will have to try that. I did walk around the craft store paint aisle with my Clash in hand trying to match the "lava orange" and got a few looks from the sales staff lol. Good news is that I found a perfect match for the grey but my quest still continues for the orange :)

Did yours have shoddy paint around the grommets? My new stick has pretty bad paint around the holes!

I find the Clash paint quality horrendous. My DR98 which is much older, seen way more playing time looks almost new in comparison.

Are the custom painted ones better quality???

I bought a Clash Tour at launch and that one's pretty badly chipped on the orange. Picked up a second one maybe 2 months later and they get equal play. Might be anecdotal, but the second one is a lot less chipped!

My wife won't do racket taps anymore because of the ease of chipping of her Clashes. It's terrible paint. But hey, how about that planned obsolescence.

Maybe I am crazy...I don’t mind paint chips. It looks like the racquet has been used for what it was built. I never trust someone playing with a museum piece racquet . Your weapon should have some scrapes and chips.

I especially look for a chipped up racket in my doubles partner. I at least know they are going to be making that extra effort for digs and half volleys.

Does your wifes clash have bad paint around the grommets?

There's a difference between chips and scrapes from use, and chips or scrapes from sitting in a bag / removing finishing tape / stringing and accidentally brushing the frame with any tool. lol

Good point. But don’t you feel that in either case, it is reflective of use or an intent to use?

Sure but the gripe everyone has is Wilson's qc is trash. Their paint is trash. Wealthier tennis players repeatedly purchasing/replacing to get a matched pair or replace banged up frames causes the problem to continue.

There's pretty much no other product on the market for ANYTHING from a large manufacturer that is able to be off spec, have horrible quality, company to have horrible customer service, and company still tell their customers to pound sand.

I was introduced to a 12oz blade v7 strung with bare handle the other day (removed replacement grip). One would be inclined to think the scale is broken. Wilson told him to travel 2 hours to get it weighed at an official retailer as a "suggestion" with no indication there would be a resolution.

I haven’t had the same experience. As far as specs being off, that seems to be widely commented on, but largely anecdotal. I guess your experience justifies more than one racquet company. I don’t like Chevrolet...always requiring repair, paint dulls quickly, interior rips too easily, poor resale value. Guess what, I don’t buy them. I have had no problem with Wilson at any level. I guess to each their own.

I used to have the Wilson Clash, the paint job on it is EXTREMELY soft and delicate. You could scratch it with your fingernail if you’re not careful.

Have you seen Wilson's qc tolerances?

Weight: +/- 10 grams
Balance: +/- 10 mm = 3 to 4 points
Ra Stiffness: +/- 3

I'm really glad you haven't had an issue but there's a reason why people say "don't buy Wilson's in pairs without a matching service." Two rackets at opposite ends are completely different... A matching service shouldn't be needed.

Am I weird for wanting to paint my Clashes all black? How would I go about doing that and which flat black paint would work best? I think it will look super rad.

So for those who tried the nail polish route, which brand/color# of nail polish work best for the Wilson Clash 100 v1? The Grey portion peeled horribly.
