REALLY!? o_O Thought it was lower 60s... like 62...

The stats of all the various Ezone iterations (in the 98 head size) have not changed much... but the feel is obviously different as can be deduced from all the feedback... It's also obvious (as demonstrated by the pros...) it's important to find the one that suits you personally and just stick with it... Kyrgios with the Xi98, Wawrinka with the 95D etc...

The Vcore Xi98 was around the 69RA, while the Ezone Xi98 was listed as 63RA (at least by TW...)

Did you measure your actual one...

Best string set up for xi98 pls find its very string sensitive

Alu power soft which plays great in most frames does not feel good feels soft and noodle in xi 98

Poly tour pro is good and fits the racquet really well but slightly underpowered and less spin

Anyone else tried hyper g or anything else

dgoran: Re: the racquet comparison tool, my memory ain't great, but I think a while back, I read that the stiffness listed was unstrung on older racquets...but I could be totally wrong. I thought the EZXi98 was 63, as was listed in whorng's link...at least I bought it, without having demoed it, using those stats.

Oh well, no regrets...it works for me, regardless of specs or stats

Yonex PolyTour Spin 125mm at 45 lbs. That's my dream set up for the Xi98 when I used it.

Who knows... but please refer to post between yours and mine... racquet finder and description pages give an average of several racquets measured by TW, not just a one-off... that one shows the RA of Xi98 as 63... either way... I use the DR98...
Oh I know but my arm feeling was definitely siding with their 66ra matter of fact over the years and all my testing I always side with their one sample measures vs their racquet reviews. I wonder If there is like one sample that’s way off and it’s dragging avg down

Nothing like personal experience... that's really the only one that matters as it's the person that has to play with it... everyone might like it and you might hate it... that's where personal preference comes in...

Furthermore, most of us don't have the luxury of testing a large sample of each racquet and picking the one that suits best... that's why I find demoing also a bit funny... unless you can tell them to find you the matching specs of the demo racquet, it may not be the same experience when you buy your new one...

Good point. Demo strings are a factor as well...

Just to clarify I did not say or wanted to say that I hate or even dislike xi98 or dr98 or new ezone 98 just that from the feedback while hitting i feel that they merged dr98 and xi98 and it feels exactly in the middle of the 2 for me.

That sounds like a good thing right? Like an xi98 with new dampening tech and slightly more flex. Please post more feedback after you’ve spent more time with racquet. Compare to APD original if possible. Thanks!

Yes its a very good thing for me. I thought DR was little too mushy (especially Plus version) and xi too firm so this felt good to me.
Dammit I actually own Original APD and forgot to compare tham and due to emerg. at work I had to work 3 days straight and had to return ezone 98 to the shop yesterday withouth comparing. I will check it out for demo again and compare to Orig APD. Just from memory new ezone 98 feels better for my one hander (just my personal bal preference for hitting one hander) but also feels quicker and more maneuverable...also easier to serve with...

If anyone likes the racquet, but found it was just a tad sluggish, I would highly encourage try throwing a leather grip on it. I did bc I felt I couldn't get enough racquet head speed on my serve, and the leather made it incredibly manuverable and amazing to serve with. Looks like I'll be switching from my pure strike over to it!

I understood... I was just saying in general that really personal experience is the only thing that matters. Whether others like it or don't, becomes irrelevant once you know how you feel about it.

Just did a video review of this stick. I’ll post it soon but there are a few things I wanted to add and clarify.

1. I compared this racquet to other Yonex frames I’ve played in the past. I would say this comes close to a DR+SV+Tour F 97. I mentioned that it was almost a marriage between the Tour F and SV in some areas. I’d say spin and power of the SV mixed with control and crisp feel of the Tour F. I spoke about how I don’t think Yonex intended this to be a DR replacement and instead a new racquet.

2 in terms of how this stick compares to other Yonex racquets, I will rank them as follows....

Spin:
1. SV 95
2. DR 98
3. DR 98 Plus
4. EZONE 98
5. AI 98
6. Tour G 330
7. Tour F 97

Power:
1. DR 98 Plus
2. EZONE 98
3. SV 95
4. DR/AI 98
5. Tour G 330
6. Tour F 97

Control:
1. Tour F 97
2. Tour G 330
3. EZONE 98
4. SV 95
5. DR 98
6. DR 98 Plus
7. AI 98

Comfort:
1. DR 98 Plus
2. AI 98
3. DR 98
4. Tour G 330
5. EZONE 98
6. SV 95
7. Tour F 97

Thanks. Like I mentioned before, this frame has a lot of different characteristics from other Yonex frames put together into one. I think this really gives players a great option; this racquet is very versatile and I feel it can work for a large number of players. I’m glad I didn’t find this racquet as horrible as some did

Do you modify/weight up your ezone 98?

If so...what's your overall specs and where do you add weight?

I haven’t added any lead to the racquet just yet. I plan on doing so in the next week or two. Probably a few grams up at 3 and 9.
I liked the results of lead at 3/9. However, I didn't like the feeling at impact. But the balls did penetrate the court a lot more with the lead.

Did you try 12 o’clock?
Nope. I didn't want to change up the swing weight too much. I tried 2 and 10 and it was starting to swing outside my comfort zone (too head heavy). Tried 4 and 8. That was a little weird. Tried it inside the throat of the racquet. Meh. 3 and 9 had the best results. But again, I didn't like the feeling at impact.

I decided to buy it to long term demo...one can never demo properly w/o strings that one is familiar with...

I liked that it’s different than dr98 as I always found dr98 little too mushy. I’ll start with volkl cyclone at 45lb than gen typhoon ajusted From 45lb as needed.

What is everyone else using string wise?

I’ll post <> comparison against racquets in my closet: new pure drive, aeropro drive original, tc95, ultra tour monfils, phantom pro and more if needed

Try it with Head Hawk Touch 18g at 45. I'm going to string mine up w/ that tonight.

DG,

I basically did the same thing. I’ve had two solid hitting sessions and I am very impressed. I was also in the same boat with the DR series. With Cyclone, you can probably go a bit higher. I’d try your norm and then go up if need be.

Whoops too late to go higher...lately inhave been hitting low at 45 and liked it a lot in prince phantoms and ultra tour so I continued the trend.

One thing that I liked about new Ezone in comparison to dr that I could not put my finger on it initially was more solid full feel...exact opposite what I read from people’s initial experiences...basically dr felt hollow while Ezone feels foam filled. I know it’s not but it has fuller feeling if that makes sense...

I really enjoy the feel of the EZONE. The DR was too soft and flexible in my opinion; I could never find a groove with that stick.

One thing I didn’t mention in my review. My backhand has improved tremendously and my slice has gone to another level. My BH slice was already solid and could get players in trouble, but it is even better now. I hit a lot of winners due to the ball getting super low and dying off speed wise. This stick is super solid. Love it.

You might like poly tour pro 1.20 gauge. Very well balanced string. If you look around you can find good deals online.

I do like that string problem is I broke it/kill it in one outing. Which is very unusual for me as I am not a string breaker but I usually use 1.25 gauge and I cannot break that one to save my life. Seem like as soon as I drop it to 1.20 it snaps..... This happened twice with PTP 1.20 yellow so maybe a bad batch or something but I stayed away from it after that..

I had lots of different setups in hopes of finding one that works...Alu power(good but went to hell fast) Alu power Soft(Absolut. Amazing just price though lol), Hyper G(too much spin also went to hell fast), Typhoon(LIke 90% of ALU performance but lasts longer). But in general I feel that XI and this version feel less hollow to me than AI and DR.

D Goran I feel alu soft is an amazing string but didn't go well in the XI 98

The racquet muted it out and it didn't feel right . I was so disappointed as it's a great string

Did you feel you could play with it v poly tour pro

Poly tour pro infeel is a better fit for the XI 98 hence why you see so many pro s with it but if Alu power soft had worked in the xi98 it would have been much better

I’ve never broken 1.20 but after about 5 hours it loses a lot of life. Started at 40, now at 50, hoping the higher tension helps it play well longer.

Sorry, I was talking about DR98.

When I had my XI 98 only string I tried was Poly tour Pro and it was ok. I think I just did not gel with XI 98 that much not a string problem.

My only experience with Alu Soft was in DR98 and everything just clicked but keep in mind that in general I like muted.

Just banging on the wall I feel that new ezone 98 needs 17 gauge string and I think my go-to typhoon will be perfect.

I'll give new ezone 98 a spin for a week as is (16 gauge Cyclone at 45lb) not to waste a new string than ill go from there

I got a set of Air that I'm going to try in it. When I tried it in the DR, Air 'deflated' quickly, too. I have some ALU Power that I want to put it in it. Oh, the options! Maybe by the time I find "the one" (string), the VCORE Pros will be out and I'll have moved on.

My normal go to string is MSV Hex and have liked it in my P17 strikes and DR98s but it just seems too lively in the new ezone 98. Had a hid with a mates Ezone 98 with Hyper G and felt like I could actually swing without fear. Might give something like cyclone a try or maybe even tour bite.

Give Kirschbaum Max Power Rough a try. Lower powered than both Hyper G & Cyclone but great spin/control/tension maintenance

Does it look like Stock frame ? or PJ ? College players doesn't seem to play with PJ on most part but this guy Axel Geller has a Contract with Yonex from his Junior days and can only play with Yonex frames so I thought he might be using a PJ
