Your Favorite Round Poly & Why?

ALU Power 125

Relatively inexpensive, easy to string, plenty of power, and no one has not liked it yet.

Hmmm where I buy my strings its about the most expensive poly string,

He was talking about the original original Alu Power. The one Luxilon copied from. :-D

I'm on the journey to find my favourite round poly in ~1.20mm for my TF40 305 18*20. I've tried/am going to test the following:

Tried full bed
- Razor Code (white)
- Hawk Touch
- Poly Tour Fire
- Firestorm
- Ice Code
- Poly Tour Strike (grey)

Tried as crosses with OGSM 1.22 mains
- Co Focus 1.18
- Outlast
- SPPP 1.18

To try
- SPPP 1.18 (full bed)
- Razor Code (carbon)
- Red Code Wax (as crosses)
- Hawk (white)
- Co Focus (as full bed)

So far I quite like Head Hawk Touch, Poly Tour Strike, and Razor Code. Tension 42-45lbs.

Forgot to mention but this type of combo is my reference setup. I always have one racquet strung up this way. 50/48lbs. I haven't been able to detect any big differences with different crosses so once I've found the poly I can commit to, I'll just use that as the cross string as well. I'd love something a bit crisp though.

Razor code not too stiff/springy?

Used white 1.20 a while ago, not too stiff for me at all. Much more comfortable than Tour Bite 1.20 at least. I actually remember liking the control even at 45lbs but again the frame is 18*20. But it was a few months ago and I really wanna try it again, also the carbon version side by side with hawk touch/hawk. My final choice will most likely be one of those.

very good list, could you do a small comparison between the round polys you tried full bed? most interested in your opinion on firestorm vs hawk touch vs razor code (white)!

no one tried Signum Pro strings? they seem to be quite popular in Europe ... I local shop all the demo racquets are stringed with SP Hyperion, and as I demoed some racquets, was quite surprised ... out SP Tornado in my old Wilson, seems to work great ...

I did. Firestorm is really good for a soft/slightly more powerful poly. poly plasma is really good as well but was a little bit too slick for me. Didnt grab the ball enough for most of my swings. Works best if you hit better through the ball than me.

L-Tec Premium Celeste. I've played it twice, with the Elevate V2 and a TF40 315 16*19. I liked the predictability on flat hitting from the baseline and it's durability. Even 1 month later and dropped tension with the TF40 before cutting it off it hadn't got launchy.

Don't know if OVAL shaped are included, but Stringlab Orbitour Gold and Isospeed Rexxxer are also pretty damn good.

Last but not least, can't leave the Dyreex Super Tour out of this. It's a much cheaper Luxilon 4G, super responsive. The ball gets in and out the stringbed fast.

Again, for flat hitting all these 4 are top-notch.

It really is a remarkable string. I love SSO but this is more responsive for sure.

It was my mistake with KSSO but never play any of them for more than a 3 session before changing this for some other combo. It is still a good string for people stringing higher OR in tighter patterns. SSO has that 2nd gen poly tension drop just like Cyberflash has (another disappointment for same reason, will only be used as cross from now). I just dont have the skill (or patience) to play through the tension drop. Pro Line Evolution just keeps going and going. Its interesting how SSO is marketed as CRISP - TENSION MAINTENANCE & PLE is marketed as POWER - DYNAMIC.

At a simple level, SSO is deader and lower powered. Perhaps you get a little more spin due to RHS.

PLE is a little livelier, has similar spin and just keeps playing well for a while.

Both are great. I think you get a little more immediate ‘wow’ from PLE.

Added to my list (but have to finish my two reels first :( )
How good is the tension maintenance. How many hours of play?

Could you perhaps compare it with PLX or Isospeed Black Fire (same gauge) or SPPP?1.23

Why take my word for it? We may swing nothing alike and your racquet choices could be very different. In anycase I havent tried any of those things. I have a pack of SPPP but I was pointed towards PLE instead so the SPPP will have to wait. The nice thing is you can get it for $6.37 for a single pack shipped with no minimum order with 1/2 day shipping from the Big Rainforest in South American website.

Alu Power because it feels the best. Pricey though. Better in an 18x20 where you get a bit more life out of it.

Kirschbaum strings seems to play "crisp" firm and control oriented.

Recently played both Evolution 1.20 and Flash 1.20 and made a comparison.
Will play the 1.25 that suit the Elevates better along with new colours of the Max Power.

Yes - they are probably simplifying things.
Super Smash Orange is just called Orange now
Pro Line Evolution is just called Evolution now.
Nope its an updated version of the string they changed it a bit to try to upgrade it which is why its literally called evolution, its the evolution of pro line 2.

"
The newest string update to the Kirschbaum Pro Line string family, the Evolution offers players an extraordinary mixture of power and spin potential without losing control. Kirschbaum has added a new light weighted pigment that lowers the density of the string without changing its performance. A constant dynamic response of the stringbed and the maintenance of the installed string tension grant steady playing characteristics and performance.

  • Outstanding combination of power and control.
  • Highest spin-potential without string-slipping
  • Extreme durability
  • Color: Blue
  • Gauge: 17 (1.25mm)
  • Length: 40ft. (12.2m)
"

I think there is some kind of lost in translation aspect if your response.

Kirschbaum made Pro Line Evolution previously and have now simplified the name to just Evolution.

Check out packaging for the same string g on their website:

As mentioned, they did the same thing with Super Smash Orange and just changed it to Orange.

Can anyone tell me how Ytex Protour Blue compares to Evolution? From the reviews, they seem very similar, almost identical, even the color!

Not a huge fan of Ytex strings. They're decent strings but they always have a list of strings that this plays like. Tells me they're a copy. Kirschbaum did it first as a TW exclusive and it was actually kind of expensive. Now a days, it's a steal at it's current price and cheaper then Ytex

I've been using Signum Pro Poly Plasma for the past ten or so years because it is good enough. I stopped trying out different strings; didn't want to spend life endlessly experimenting.

Well duh Evolution is just short for Pro Line Evolution everyone knows that. But gold posted an image of pro line II and claimed evolution is the same string with a simplified name. Its not, its literally the evolution of pro line II

Tested in Pro Staff 97 v14

It feels like a slight crisper, livelier BUT not more powerful than SSO (about equal when fresh but SSO quickly drops tension and becomes more powerful) to me - main thing is the rubbery feeling that starts showing up in Orange when it drops tension is no longer there so PLE remains crisp and lively instead becoming of trampoliney/rubbery. Never tried Razor Code. Im a $100 or less per reel kind of guy.

To me PLE is a crisper, long lasting PTP.

I like round poly’s due to their consistent response and I don’t see much if any difference in spin from shaped strings (at least for me). My favorites, no particular order:

ALU Power Soft - 2 hours of bliss, but that is it. Too pricey for regular play.
kB Pro Line II - Consistent response. Solid all around.
KB Max Power - Stiff string, but not an arm killer. Great control string.
Tourna Black Zone - My go to in the $85 reel range.
Super Smash Orange - like to string this low, plays really well and another value string
IsoSpeed Baseline Control - Dies quick, but plays pretty good for a few hours. Great value.

Great round crosses - I use these for poly hybrids or natural gut.
Ghostwire
Poly Tour Fire
Lux 4G Soft - Gut only due to stiffness
Max Power - Gut only due to stiffness

Have you used PT fire to cross other polys or just gut? How is the stiffness, comfort?
