Initial Impressions of the Australian Open court speed?

To me it seems a little bit faster. I'm watching Jankovic vs. Meusburger, and these rallies already seem a little faster than every womans' match of 08 besides Sharapova/Henin. Last year everything was just SLOW.

So I'm pleased it's a little faster. And is it just me, or does meusburger have a very high ball toss?

The women players tend to hit a much flatter ball than the men because Roddick was on before her and it looked rather slow. The commentators also mentioned that the courts were playing very slow.

Hmmmm....every commentator down under has stated them as being quite a bit slower than last year....

It looked really slow. I believe one of the commentators mentioned something about the amount of sand thrown onto the acrylic as playing a huge factor in the slowness (it made the surface gritty, which grips the ball). Another interesting point that was made was the fact that it is slow in such heat, and that it would be slower during the night matches.

Looks the same to me like it did last year. Nadal should have more chance here than on any other HC and Murray - rafa Im hoping to see would be a thriller, cause Muzza is fast, so is Rafa. Defenders with a transition possibilities and attacking skills. Muzza better on serve and at the net, but that is equaled by Rafas fighting spirit, insane spins and just a better on court movement and defence ...

Looking orward to it very much !!!

they just resurfaced it 2 months ago, so its gonna be tad slower...
im not guessing, i say this as i have played at melb park b4 and one of the ppl told me...

I'm watching these matches and these shots are SMOKING!

Is it just because it's a different camera angle? This is ridculous! It' smuch faster than last years

Get a life, this has nothing to do with the topic.

They seem to be quite slow compared to USO and last years AO. The heavier grit makes spinny balls kick up higher and slows them down more. Flat balls play quite fast on these courts and slice is pretty average. On the whole they are pretty slow but I like that.

Seems slightly slower then the US Open. Not by much. I expect the courts to speed up more in the second week. This would put Nadal at a disadvantage.
