ACC tennis

NC State has free streaming too - I added the link to the live scoring page.

great video quality. One of the highest among all the streams. And this Powell vs Andrews match is really good quality. Both players playing well, moving each other around. Points ending in good play rather than errors.

A little overly positive for a loss to a team without their top player I think here. Of course I have noticed that this is the norm in college tennis. Coaches from all teams tend to be way over the top positive in all their comments. And I don't know what the heck Blake Davis is talking about. UNC did not have Schurr. He's creating a classic connect-the-dots victory(he says they could have won doubles. They lost 5-8, 6-8 and 2-8 ). Then Nunez talks about FSU's "reputation" of being a tough team to play at home. Yeah come to Tallahassee and you will only win 5-2!

I didn't know the head coach and veteran leaders on the team were supposed to be negative and bash their team publicly after a four hour match that they just lost to one of the best teams in the country. Especially going into conference tournament time, I think they have a great attitude going into their final couple matches and the post season.

As for their home record, this weekend was only their second and third losses at home all year, all of which to teams ranked inside the top 15. They've beaten two very good teams at home (USF and Wake Forest) that are ranked above them, as well as a very feisty and always tough NC State team.

FSU gets a great crowd out and is definitely a tough place to play for an opposing team. It's good to see a newcomer to the team like Nunez embrace the fans and appreciate the support, as that will only get more fans and more support for years to come.

Yeah it's a good attitude for the team to have but it also came off like they were ok with the loss. UNC is good but they were missing Schnur in singles and at home that's an opportunity you gotta take.

I like the FSU tennis facility a lot, probably my favorite in the ACC. However their courts are not some kind of fortress. What I mean is they do not have any results there that go above and beyond their capability level just because it's at home (could maybe say Texas last year, but Texas wasn't that good last year). Last year they lost to VT and Clemson at home. Their road results are comparable to their home ones.

Duke tweeted its player's rankings and mentioned they have 1 doubles team ranked (Saba/Hemmeler) and 3 singles players ranked (Tahir,Saba,Semenzato) even though they have 2 doubles teams and 4 singles players ranked. I wonder if Redlicki is coming back this year. Him being omitted from the tweet makes me think no.

I wonder if that will have any effect on his brother's current committal...

Redlicki is still listed on the roster, but I think you're right, he's not coming back. It's been five matches now. Indefinite suspension can mean alot of things, but given the number of times Redlicki was absent from the lineup prior to the Virginia match, I'd say it was coach's code for "He ain't coming back for the rest of the season and I'm not going to discuss it." So the question is, do we see one, two or zero Redlickis next year. And if Michael is indeed booted from the team, I wonder where he will go?

I think Martin is a very different personality than Michael, so whatever precipitated the suspension, maybe he will think to himself, that's Michael being Michael. But still it would be a little weird to join a team that his brother was kicked off of. And if that happens, Duke probably has two full scholarships but no one to give them to. What a recruiting disaster. And when you add in the Indoor Tournament fiasco, it hasn't been a good year for Smith.

Talking about suspensions and absences from lineups, what's up with Esben of UNC? He's been in and out of the lineup all year. Is there trouble there as well? Don't know him at all, but is he tanking the season? Because he certainly has put in some very weird performances.

michael seems to have been a real recruiting miscue - sad if they have to pay for that mistake double in the end if they lose his much better (at tennis, and reportedly in terms of maturity as well) brother

i'm not sure how someone with the sportsmanship pedigree of smith (two time Arthur Ashe sportsmanship award winner) failed to see he was bringing in trouble when he watched the older redlicki act a fool on the courts in juniors

He's 5-9 this year fall and spring as has zero meaningful wins. He is similar to Redlicki in terms of on court demeanor and antics. I remember two years ago after he lost to Ayrton Wibowo of Clemson he had to be yelled at and scolded by Sam Paul in front of everyone after he threw his racquet and cursed loudly. But I don't think it's purely a discipline issue because despite Redlicki's issues he was still #35 in the nation whereas Esben can't buy a win. Could be a mix of injury/confidence/personal etc. Who knows really but it's odd for him to be having such an awful year and his twin Soren to be having a fantastic year.

Maybe he was doing it for Cunha's last year. He needed one more stud to get him over the top. He knew what he was getting, thought he could manage it, and took a chance.

Don't know which is worse: the possible Redlicki departure mid year or Singh's departure from Georgia right before the NCAA tournament last year. Diaz was also very aware of what he was getting in Singh. There was an article in the fall on their website that reported on Singh's training methods and how Diaz had to adapt. It's a trap many coach's fall prey to, believing that you can reach and develop anyone.

Yeah but at least Singh wasn't a bad sport or rude to his opponents during matches. He just different training techniques and wasn't the most committed guy to his team. Maybe it's a bit of hubris from the coaches in these circumstances(Redlicki, Singh and others) thinking they can change a leopard's spots.

1. Virginia, nearly dropped that one @ Clemson, but it was without Frank, but ive my doubts on theire deep lineup...the bottom positions look weaker as everyone expected; handled GTech far easy after that one.

2. Duke - destroyed Miami and won at FSU, which is not that easy, dangerous team right now, vs Clemson will be huge on Friday

3. North Carolina - took care of FSU and Miami, which is not that easy on the road, and especially without Schnur, vs Clemson on Sunday is huge

4. Notre Dame , again must ask why they are ranked so high? they ve 8 losses....best wins was 2 times vs Kentucky, 1 time Florida, 1 time Miss State, but not beaten anyone ahead. Dropped a bad game at NC State, after avoiding this @ Wake Forest

5. Clemson- . gave their hearts vs UVA, easily took out Vtech. Upcoming 2 road games at UNC and Duke are their last chances to get in Top16

6. Florida State -lost 4 in a row now...things not get easier....vs BC is an easy out now but ND will be tough

7. Wake Forest - want to put them ahead of FSU...but this rollercoaster season...hmm....lost a hard one vs Notre Dame...play both Virginias this weekend

8. Virginia Tech - beat Gtech but lost @ Clemson, nothing new. should get into ncaas, vcu today is a nailbiter and important one, plus Wake on Friday, NC State on Sunday. BIG WEEK !!!

9. NC State - great win over Notre Dame, should secure their ncaas. They ve lost to everyone else ahead of them, so i would not put them higher right now, they still play Vtech and WF..so chances are still there.

10. Miami ,season is fading a little bit. ND, BC and FSU the ACC teams left on their schedule, need to win 2 of them i feel to savely reach ncaas

11. Georgia Tech - looks overmatched right now, should not change at UNC and at Duke this weekend.

12. Boston College - nothing to write anymore....it is not worth the research...also i like their players to play every match also they know they ll lose it....

Why do you keep asking this same question? Notre Dame beat Kentucky twice and Duke lost to Kentucky. Duke lost to Elon. You seem to never pay attention to the effect that the Elon loss has on Duke's ranking. The computer ranking formula treats the Elon loss the same way as if it happened last week. Duke has good wins over Illinois and UNC and ... Notre Dame. NCSU is the only bad loss for ND and it is not as bad as losing to Elon. ND has two losses to Virginia and one to USC that don't really hurt at all.

I can assure you that if ND loses to Elon they will drop below Duke.

Looks like Georgia Tech got a commitment from a good international recruit from Tunisia. He is 1-2 against blue chips, with a 3-set loss to Luca Corinteli and 2-set loss to Danny Kerznerman, both in late 2012, and a summer of 2013 3-set win over Martin Redlicki.

it just feels not right...and i still think the elon loss was just a fluke and not for real..happens just 1 in 20 times or even never...:shock:
also i know it is in the rankings...and it counts...

him vs Nedovyesov in Tunis

a match in which he took a set from the now world top 100 player and former ITA #1 at OK State.

Good pick-up for GT. They need to get back on track.

he's had all sorts of injury issues this year. the team often doesn't know whether or not he'll be healthy enough to play until right before the match. obviously this has affected his confidence and game. i thought he'd be ready to go by now but so far he's just been a throw away loss when he's actually played.

Wake Forest at Virginia Tech - Very important for the Hokies. If they win this they can almost count themselves into the NCAAs. Doubles will be a win for Wake. 5 and 6 to Virginia Tech. Kan should bean Koontz at 3. The match will be decided at 1,2 and 4. Contini vs Bogaerts will be a very close match as will Lee vs Bjerrehus. Both are toss-ups. Ho vs Monteiro is another toss-up. I predict that Virginia Tech will squeak out the 4-3 win today with Contini clinching over Bogaerts.

Virginia and NC State playing singles first today for the USTA Matchday format even though it's not an ESPN3 match. UVA has a nice outdoor stream with quality sound and it's free too.

This is playing out almost exactly like I said. Let's see if my pick of Contini pulling it out holds true.

Georgia Tech playing with 5 today vs UNC

Some Georgia Tech notes:

1. Will Showers plays every match, but is not on the roster page. Another good sports information job for college tennis.

2. Seems to be some attrition in Atlanta recently. Their roster is small because five-star recruits Vikram Hundal and Garrett Gordon are no longer there. They should be a junior and a sophomore, respectively.

3. Will Showers and Casey Kay missed the UNC match, reducing the roster from seven to five. Three-star recruit Colin Edwards had to play #5. They could have used Hundal and Gordon, I guess.

EDIT: The story after the UNC loss mentioned that they will field only five players "for the rest of the spring due to an assortment of injuries and other issues." Was Showers, their blue chip, removed from the roster and not missing by mistake?

I don't understand what's going on down there. According to Facebook Hundal is still at Georgia Tech just not playing tennis. I had forgotten about Gordon, I wonder what happened to him.

I could have sworn Showers was on the roster recently on their site. Maybe not but it could mean he got kicked off.

UVA men's tennis goes for all time all sports ACC consecutive win record today vs WF.

Men's tennis last lost in 2006 in ACC tourney finals vs. Duke. It will break the previous record set by Duke's women's tennis team some years ago and will be #117 in a row.

Anybody know the consecutive conference win tennis streaks in other conferences?

FSU at Notre Dame - 4-3 Notre Dame. I'm quite tempted to go with FSU here but I think ND will edge it with wins at 1,3,4 and 6 or doubles. #2 is a toss up

NC State at Virginia Tech - 4-3 to VT. I just think the Hokies are on a bit of a roll here playing their best tennis now. NC State will win doubles but VT can overcome that.

Virginia stomping Wake into the ground in singles. Wake put some pressure on in doubles but Virginia was able to take the TB at 2 to take the point.
