Assuming Raonic wins - I'd go with Ferrer tomorrow

Thanks for the tip, Ferrer seems like a solid choice here, he's had a couple of disappointing results recently which he will be looking to make up for on the clay.

I'll have a look at the OOP tomorrow, too.
Thanks again.

He's been immense this year 23-3 and 3 titles

And this is clay, remember - arguably his strongest surface

I really, really want to win this title.
My favourite Masters, and it would be my first SDL title.

Any tips on how to win these things?

If you want to win a title, the best way is to try to bet on tough matches early in the draw to save the more likely picks for later.

For example, you probably will want to take Raonic in the QF if you have hopes of winning the title. That way you could pick Federer for the SF and then leave both Djokovic/Nadal available for the finals regardless of who wins that match.

If your goal is to just do as well as possible, however. You probably don't want to even pick Raonic at all. Just role with either Nole or Nadal for the QF, pick Fed for the SF and then risk not having a title pick. Basically increase your odds to make the finals vs losing in the QF at the cost of having lower chances to win the title.

I play every one of these to win the title, so naturally I go out in the R16/QF in most events

One of the rare examples where my risk strat worked out was going with Nishikori in the R16 at USO to save Wawrinka-Fed-Djoko for the QF/SF/F. I was in a much better position at that point than most people for the USO, but then of course they all trolled me at that event

IMO, your pick of Nishikori was the pick of the USO SDL tourney. Great move, too bad it didn't get you the win :(

Thanks for the info.
I'm in it to win it too.

Never been a fan of high-percentage tennis.

Good luck to everyone picking Ferrer. He was my original choice but backed out after seeing everyone else go for him. IW-Miami double disaster has not been good for my confidence.
Hope Ferrer delivers. And Milos too :)

Couldn't help getting on the bandwagon with his potential QF and SF matches. Even though he may win them, I can't imagine picking him against Nadal (maybe Isner, I would), Djokovic, or the other finalist. I was actually confident I was going to pick Raonic until I looked at the draw.

IW and Miami "massacres" took place on the first 2 days when all of the Top 32 seeds had byes, which made it extremely difficult to find a "sure thing". While Ferrer is far from a certainty, this is a very different situation.
