So is Novak going to play in Australia or not?
Maybe it's just to keep people guessing a bit

I’m pretty sure he’s stated that he’s waiting for the Victoria province to officially mandate vaccines (I know Tiley has said they would, but officially official)

which obviously won’t happen until January. Now, you could look at that two ways:
1) being vague is just him trying to put pressure on them to not have a vaccine mandate altogether, but he would still get the shot and go if it comes down to it
2) he’s waiting until the official announcement but won’t play if there is a mandate bc he’s just a full anti vaxxer

With his win tonight Zverev becomes the only player to record multiple victories against Djokovic this season.

The match was winnable. Djokovic just looked like he already had called the season after the first set and was just rolling with it from that point. It didn't feel like he was desperate at all to win. No sense of urgency. I think he is satisfied that his season has come to an end today.
Novak only has two modes
  1. Not even God himself can stop me
  2. Eh, you can have it

I would be so disappointed with option 2. Still think he is just a 'my vaccination status is nobody's business' type, but we will know soon enough..

This tournament, with the quick surface, is the biggest advert for the modern servebot baseliner I've ever seen.

Zverev and Medvedev serve bombs from 20ft up in the air, get a huge amount of returns back into play, and move ridiculously well for their heights in rallies.

Medvedev is unbroken in 3 out of 4 matches against top 10 players and Zverev just served 72% 1st serves and won 78% of those points against the best returner ever.

I just found a chilling y.e.c stat for Freddy.

17 appearances 16 Semi-Finals!

Only on ONE occasion did Freddy not make it out of the Round-Robin stage (sheesh!)

He's only 1 ahead of the rest here in y.e.c crowns, but his Tie-Breaker y.e.c stats just blow the rest away ...

4 Runner Ups
6 Semi Finals
59 matches won (second Lendl 39)
5 y.e.c's won with a 5-0 cleen-sheet (i think the next best is 3 apiece by Djoker/Sampras) ***EDIT*** Djoker does have 3/5 5-0s but Sampras has ZERO 0/5 (4-1) & he seemed to make a habit of defeating the same guy in the final that got him in the round robin. Becker x2 + Agassi x1 LOL :p
Games won 1016 (Becker in @ 2nd on 706/Djoker tied @ 4th with Lendl on 639)

Fred even has the most aces lol (510 from 17 tournaments) Sampras 2nd @ 466 aces from 11 tournaments & may as well be first lol.

u.t.s has a nice little stats page to scroll through to really highlight Freddy's strengths in everything apart from the main stat of 6 y.e.c's. Really deserves to be the outright holder!

You're assuming you'll win. I'm hoping you do, but let's be honest, you'll need to look up "Djokovic heart throw" in a few hours. Or click this link: https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/data/avatars/l/749/749414.jpg?1606772223
Alright @The Big Foe fan almost time to pay up.
Alright, I'm a word of man.
Doing it.

This will be my profile avi for the rest of this month.

And then you get to choose my new one for a month if another of your prediction comes true about the final, and vice versa.

The hardest challenge since when, the last 3 months? There is exactly 1 major title between both Med and Zverev. The hardest challenge in tennis in the 21st century has been to beat Fed and Nadal back to back or Djoker and Rafa back to back or any variation thereof. Not known chokers like Med and Zedrot. Talk about exaggerating the prowess of both players.
I bet Djokovic would prefer current versions of on-the-crutches fed and out-of-sorts nadal all day rather than 10 years younger 6'6" pushbots with big serves. This isnt 2019 anymore.

As if that will matter? There's no doubt this is the weakest, most pathetic field for any YEC (or previously, "The Masters") in the past 40 years. Djokovic remains head and shoulders above the field, unless he pulls up injured or gets food poisoning, his C game should beat anyone here.
2017 and 2016 were more pathetic bruh.
Raonic and Monfils and Goffin and PCB and whatnot.
Bloody hell.

2016 had 3 multiple Slam champions (Djokovic, Murray, Wawrinka), 1 Slam champion (Cilic), 1 future Slam champion (Thiem), 2 Slam finalists (Nishikori, Raonic). That's 7 of the 8 players in the draw. Of the 2021 crowd, only 1 was a multiple Slam champion (Djokovic), 1 Slam champion (Medvedev) and 3 Slam finalists (Zverev,Tsitsipas, Berrettini). In 2016, the weakest player (Monfils) was replaced by another weak player (Goffin). In 2021, 2 of the top players (Berrettini, Tsitsipas) were replaced by 2 players who never made a Slam final and weren't even top #10. 2021 was certainly a weaker draw than 2016.

Yeah Fed’s record at the YEC is absurd. The one-title gap doesn’t really do it justice.

I've been trying to dig up the alternate procedures for the Tour Finals & the most i've been able to dig up through the official a.t.p rulebook is basically the guy that just missed the cut (9th) becomes the designated alternate & must hang around in case of a call-up. But what about second/third/fourth alts etc? These are 'selected' by a.t.p but they do not detail how many other guys they have hanging around in a hotel or something? Perhaps the a.t.p just piles up another 10 guys & sticks them in one corner of the hotel & pay them not to do anything unless they have to lol :D

I do remember that there was one edition of the tour finals around 10 years ago where a bunch of alternate alts refused to accept for one reason or another & the a.t.p had to make additional phone calls haha!

Furthermore, which y.e.c had the most alts used? I am genuinely curious!

Zverev really stepped it up today. He's not giving the weak era enthusiasts much to talk about today at least.
He's 24 and has never won a slam. The current top 100 (current meaning no Nadal or Fed) have won a handful of slams: Cilic, Thiem and Med one slam each, Stan 3, Andy 4... and it's a misnomer to say those of us who properly call this a weak field are enthusiastic about it. It's painful to see a sea of trash with one extremely high quality player in the mix (Djoker).

Every single one of Cilic, Thiem, Medvedev, Stan, and Andy won their first slam older than Zverev's current age.

Designed for berry , unfortunately he got injured.

Watching the rebroadcast on Tennis Channel. Beginning of the third set - methinks that Zverev is going to win!!! (; ha ha ha!

Yes, Djokovic won the Paris Open, but Medvedev and Zverev have been the two best players in the world since the Olympics - Djokovic not playing very much is true but it is also true that Med and Zed have as a result been the two best players on the tour! So the final is a fitting ending to this season.

Medvedev had the slowest progression of the current crop while Zverev was the most precocious of the giants...

It's just scary to face them on the fast courts because they not only serve so well but have also the game to back it up and return very well.

Thank god for (slower) clay which makes things more variable and difficult for them.

You're telling half the story of 2016.
Only Murray's half and his draw which was tougher and absolutely loaded.
Nole's was an utter joke, beyond pathetic bruh...
Undeveloped Thiem and 3 pigeons on the way to final for nole.
How the hell did Murray win after 2 tough 3 setters is still beyond my understanding.
