Alright....I slept on it

Ok, Slept on it and thought about it from just about every conceivable angle.

1st the race card, either way it is ridiculous to even justify those statements. Race or culture had nothing to do with those events.

2nd it for some was a Bad call - Does not matter either, in tennis bad calls do happen, you question politely, and move on, not threaten and attack the official.

3rd just as a civilized human being - It is never ok to threaten and asault someone, in any situation.

4th the post match interview - A civil individual would have used the opportunity to save face and try to apologize for the inappropriate behavior.

5th The sportsman in us all - How about giving Kim her due and say that she was in fact doing better than Serena and that she is sorry for stealing her glory in that.

Now I know there have been many threads about it, but this is not hatred or anything along that accord. I have been in many a situation where calls cost me a title or trophy. Life is just that way.

In the end Serena's behavior is disgusting not only for what she did, but how she is handling it after the fact.

Serena lost her temper and said some things she should not have said. I can forgive her for that. That she did not have the sense to recognize her error and apologize for her conduct during the post match interview is not forgivable.

Brilliant post and spot on. Thank you. I'm still shocked this morning after watching it unfold and seeing numerous reports on TV about it. She should be heavily fined and suspended from the WTA for a long period of time, say six months or more. We cannot tolerate this *****.

I agree. I also slept on it and feel the pretty much the same ...

Serena is more than a poor loser and good winner ...

Its always about her, the loses, the bad calls, the incidents ...

Its pretty obvious that she was not sorry from her post match interview.

That was ugly and it was an assualt.

Punishment should be the result along with lessons learned from the incident handling by the USO.

She doesn't care, shes a millionaire.

Money does not excuse her behavior.....Saddam Hussein was a millionaire also, is he excused for his actions? (I know it is a stretch of a comparison, but you see my point)

Wealth has nothing to do with behaving like a civilized human being.

i think a month plus a % fine from the end of year earnings would be enough, im one of the biggest serena haters on this forum, but what she did in the heat of the moment, wrong as it may be, was done in the heat of the moment. she was wrong, but in sports tempers do flare up.

my honest thoughts would be

25% of end of year winnings from points and a 1 month suspension. that will send a message and if anything happens like this again we can reevaluate.

I think she should pay for the lineswoman's childrens' college education

You can bet the victim will sue either the tournament or Serena.

There was a story this season about why Jason Bay never yells at the umpires. He said that when he was in little league he struck out and threw his helmet and bat down. His dad, who was his coach, took him out of the game, and told him such behavior is not just a reflection on him, but on his teamates and on his family.
Either no one has had this talk with Serena, McEnroe, Nastase, Connors or Safin, they weren't listening, or they can't control their emotions.

Charlie,

Indeed, and that is why there are so many threads claiming that you can't take the girl out of the ghetto. They are mostly misplaced in their claims, but for sure the Williams sisters have demonstrated that they were not reared to be good sportsman.

The entire Williams family as well as her fans were shamed by her actions.

If I were a fan of hers, I would most certainly feel ashamed.

Which part of "She doesn't care, shes a millionaire" sounds like an excuse for her behavior?

No guys, it's not her fault she didn't apologize or express regret for her actions. She just didn't think about it yet!

The point is I seriously doubt that Serena will lose any sleep over this. She is a rich brat who could quit playing right now and never have to worry about money the rest of her life. Most of us have to behave while at work or else we will be at the local soup kitchen begging for food. lol Professional athletes know they are in an advantageous situation from a financial standpoint. They do have a bit more power that us everyday people who could never get away with this type of behavior.

ArrowSmith.....you are surfing a really tough line here.

Where you not the guy that was making fun of wheelchair tennis players? You seem to be bit of a arse! I would watch the connotation for your statement, cuz I will say this about your hidden race innuendo. NO race is granted anything...and your implication is foolish.

Move on my friend, your sentiment is not welcome here. I have no more patience for you. I admit that on a internet board you should expect to deal with some idiots but you my friend are taking it to a new level.

Why do you go and make fun of some one else...you have not made fun of the mentally challenged yet, so quit while you are ahead!
