breathing >:O

hey everyone im a freshman playing tennis for the first time im currently on JV 23rd out of 30 people and i been experiencing sum problems.breathing problems. today wus the first challege match i ever played and i did horrible mostly due to my breathing. i noticed i was holding my breath through out my match, it made me sluggish and out of breath. so i was wondering wut is the correct method of breathing when you play tennis? do u breath through ur nose then out through ur mouth when u hit or what? any help or tip would be awesum! thank you

Daaang. 30 people on JV? Must be in an area where tennis is some serious business. Unless you were unconscious to the fact you were holding your breath while actually playing, I'd say the best thing to do is to let your body do the breathing naturally.

I agree, holding your breath seems like something you would do if you are nervous or maybe havent played a lot of matches. I dont know if i would go as far to suggest grunting when you hit the ball, but definitely be conscious that when you hit a ball you are generally breathing out and when you are out of breath, breathe through your mouth. When you go to serve breathe in through your nose and out your mouth to calm down a little. Aside from that it might just be nerves, you can work through it...we all have to!:)

naww 30 in general my bad including varsity ehh my team is decent thz for the help guys breath naturally, breath out through mouth when tired, and breathing in through nose and out through my mouth for serve. i will remember that!

something that might help you is to think about breathing out on each stroke.. so breath out as you make contact

Are you in decent shape fitness wise? The better shape your in the lease you have to focus on your breathing, seems like common sense but alot of kids on JV team when I was in high school a couple years back got alot better when they hit the gym

yeah im in decent shape sorta lol when people say hittin the gym i think of weights but wut do u mean by that? running? this spring break i plan to bike to these tennis courts to play tennis everyday i think biking would help

I really wouldn't pick up any weights unless your running as well or else your just going to add more pounds to your frame to lugg around. the bike idea is a good start
