Congrats to Murray and his fans!

He finally got "owned" in a slam final

Seriously, it's been a long time coming and he finally did it in a very dramatic fashion, I can't imagine how he feels right now. I remember a few years ago he said in some interview how USO is his favourite slam so in a way it's fitting it happened there.

While I was rooting for Novak to win this one (and am disappointed he didn't defend his title) I do believe Murray winning is good for the game, now with a huge monkey off his back I definitely don't see him stopping at one, this could very well open the floodgates.

I have been a long time supporter of Andy, and this win is awesome. I think now he will get the respect that he deserved for his amazing talent. Andy Rocks.

I always believed that winning Gold in Olympics will give him confidence to win GS and it happened. No matter what people thing about olympic Gold, they can never guess the confidence booster that it would have given Andy. The Legend of Andy starts now.

I am so happy for Andy and his group of people(even though his mom gets on my nerves looking like a dinosaur). Now I can say I'm a Murray fan online without getting bashed! That was a great final IMO...top 10 USO for sure.

Nice words, it's a great day indeed.

I'm giving up on the idea of sleep tonight, it's already after 3 so I shall honour Andy's victory with an all nighter!

Andy winning tonight was better for the sport, I truly believe that.

Wonder how Lendl is going to party tonight...

Thanks Zagor. Much appreciated.
Great match. Very, very tense and stressful though.
I don't know how these guys manage to maintain a high level of tennis with that amount of pressure?
If Murray has to go through this trauma everytime he wants to win a slam, he might think of retiring!
Cheers.

Yes, congrats to Andy and his fans!

It was certainly a well-deserved and beautiful victory. To finally beat Djokovic in five sets after losing like he did in Australia was really symbolic. I'm so happy for him!

Here's to many more for the Scot!

True "revenge" for Australia, he likes his wins over Djoker @ Dubai and Olympics (especially olympics) but this one takes the cake

Is he gonna have a Lendl-like career now? Didn't Lendl also win his 1st slam title at the 5th attempt? Will history repeat?

I hope Andy goes on to win many more slams and have a similar career to his coach. He's too talented not to win at least a few more.

I like that he achieved his first Slam title by beating the defending champion and multiple Slam winner. The top 3 guys all won their maiden Slams by beating opponents who had never won one or even been in a Slam final before! Murray was forced to do it the hard way. It took him a while and several attempts but he got there eventually.

Now that this particular monkey is finally off his back, let's hope it will give him renewed confidence and open the door to many more! :)

Congratulations to Andy and all his fans. I'm disappointed Nole wasn't able to defend his title, but Andy truly deserved to win a slam. I think this will open the door for him to win more. Exciting times are ahead. :)

I know you're a big Murray fan, so assumed you were also from the UK? Maybe you decided to pull an all nighter in Andy's honour aswell :)

I thought this match was a toss up. Basically, the two opponents have the same style, same game. Could have gone either way.

Did not see the match, just some highlights, seems to have been a well played 5 hour baseline war. They must have both been exhausted by the end.

Murray winning makes it more interesting, especially if Nadal comes back. Fed, Joker, Rafa and Andy. The Big 4.

Andy looked like he has autism in the post match interview. For god sakes, smile you just won the USO. :)

He'll never be the most animated guy out there but I think he was a bit dazed. It all hadn't quite sunk in yet. He was quite charming in his interview with the Sky commentators later and managed a few smiles then! :)

Probably just exhausted after 5 hours of running around. Those two had a lot of long rallies. Since he had lost 4 GS finals in a row, nice to see him win one and put an end to the 76? year GB drought.

I was so happy for Murray! He finally got the proverbial monkey off his back, and I definitely think he has the skill to win a few more. He has improved his second serve, and if he can serve above 60%, he'll be tough for anyone to beat with his return game. His forehand is also much improved from a few years ago. It was interesting to see Djokovic approach the net so much. Guess even he was a bit nervous trying to win a groundstroke game against Andy! Murray won't have the pressure about "will he ever win one" now, so hopefully he can even play more relaxed in the future. Indeed, the future will be fun to see unfold!

I think the reason why Lendl wasn't smiling is because he knows when Andy finally comes down from heaven, he'll want to go back.

It's harder to motivate someone who has reached those heights, unless he's been bitten by the drug called success.

Well done Andy. We love you.

I've pulled two all-nighters in a row, and saw the Andy match from 2AM to 7 AM (with a splitting headache from the evening itself, and an ice-pack on the forehead for most of the match).

Was worth it totally. :D

Is Britain celebrating. How is the mood there ?

Good man! I'm feeling a bit delicate too, but it was totally worth it.

Britain seems to be having celebration overload at the moment. Yesterday was the parade for all the Olympians who went around London, millions of people turned up for it. Considering the Country was already high on celebrating, Murray winning the US Open the same evening? There's a great atmosphere around.

I went and got all the papers this morning so I can read all the coverage of it when I get home tonight :)

Here in the UK, Murray's USO win is being treated as the icing on the cake after a summer of successful Olympics and Paralympics! :)

Now if only we can get the England and Scotland football teams to emulate the success of our athletes and no.1 tennis player!

Well, we have the t20 World Cup coming up, where we are defending champions. The Ryder Cup etc.. We still have things to achieve this year! :)

As for the football, we didn't do too badly at the Euro's at all. A couple of penalty kicks away from the semi finals is a decent result. I'm really enthusiastic abut what Hodgson is doing with England, the midfield is looking fantastic (Chamberlain, Cleverley, Lampard and Milner seem to be a great combination). The youngsters of Sterling and Lallana are exciting too.

It's a great time to be a British sports fan at the moment! We've been through some real crap times, i'm making sure I enjoy it.

That's a great turn of phrase.
And very prophetic.
Having to face a monster slow hard court player like Djokovic in the final, I actually felt he had two or more slam final losses in him.
Lendl warned Murray he would have to go through a lot of pain to beat him.
Didn't realise that would include losing a finger and toenail.

As delayed as my response is (just haven't been online much recently), I have to say that I am so happy for Murray, all of the Murray fans for him finally winning. Saw the whole thing, and was really impressed with the way he held it together after Djokovic fought back. He has had a great summer, and I have thrilled that he got that question answered. I do hope he can continue to grow, and win more slams.
