I put some Hyperion in the Tec today at 54/52. Really nice setup. Did not like it at all in the APD but it's a great hard court string. Very quick release off the bed and nice angles.

I put a touch of lead at 10/2 and a rubberband and the feeling is very nice and dampened.

Fed, sounds like you've got a nice setup on the 95D; should hit a big nasty ball now.

I might have to give it another shot. I've just been really impressed with the PSTGT so it's gonna take a lot for that racquet to be dethroned.

Totally different feel off the string bed.The x10 325 plays kinda stiff when compared to the plushness of the PSTGT. The X10 has nice pop but I just couldn't get any real rhythm or accuracy with the frame no matter which string setup I used. The PSTGT is just an absolute unique frame as it covers so many styles of play. Be interested in your findings.

First hit with the pro open was just practice, no sets.

Felt like a wilson. Super easy transition from the 6.1 in terms of it having that awesome wilson feel. It was strung full poly with tour bite and twisted razor crosses. Felt good but was dying, so its coming out for gut/poly. Weighs 11.1 strung, 11.4 with dampener and grip.

Anyway, this racquet has a thicker and fuller feel to it than the blx. I think that is because the sweet spot is probably bigger. The 6.1 is crisper and less forgiving. For being a light stick, the feel on the ball with a perfect rip is very plush.

The racquet feels better than a babo and is much easier on the arm. It may be softer than the 6.1 in terms of feel. It hits with as much power as well. The difference is of course the weight of the ball.

What i noticed with the lighter stick:

I hit with more spin which made the balls a little easier to get to, but when i had my timing synced to the stick, the ball was really big.

Not sure if gut poly will last as long with the racquet head speed, but we will see. I will put iontec in the second one and see how it goes in comparison.

Drop shots and wolleys are not as good as the 6.1. The 6.1 is just such a solid stick. The pro open is suprisingly solid as well, but its lighter.

Serves are big. Not sure if they are better than the 6.1, but i had no problems. The spin was bigger once again.

Running cross court winners are a lot easier. So to me, a lighter stick makes a difference here.

Slices are sick with this racquet. The 6.1 is also incredible for slices, but its a little different. The 6.1 excels at classic fed style slice, and the pro open has an incredible driving slice that you can use more as attacking shot.

The pro open is a pretty easy to use stick. Its like an easier to use 6.1 and pure drive mixed together.

But to be honest, The footwork is the game changer. That makes it so much easier to hit big even with the lighter stick. When you are properly throwing all your weight into the ball, it doesnt seem to matter how light the stick is. The thing is that i was very early with the timing off so i was missing cross court wide sometimes. But the racquet makes picking the low balls up super easy. I think tw mentions this, but this really stands out. Its mainly due to being lighter.

Basically, the weight experiment continues. I will keep this one stock, and the other one will be weighted up a little. So i will have light, medium and heavy to try and figure out my favorite.

In terms of the stick though...This could be a possible grail stick for ross. I just think it is how a lot of people wished a pure drive or apdc played. It could be very similar to the swirly, because it just has superior feel for a tweener stick, and hits with more control and comfort to it. You can definitley seem elements of the 6.1 in it as well.

^ Glad you enjoyed the ProOpen PP... it really is an underestimated stick.

Very clean feeling and easy to generate rhs.

I too agree with you on the footwork and proper rotation comments, which is the reason that I can never say 'I hate this racquet' ...or 'it's terrible'... I like all sticks of every make/model and can usually find some redeeming qualities.

Feel is my 'biggie'. I was always searching for that perfect feel.

Anyways.. good write up.

When I demo'd all those frames this past fall, I would usually call someone up to hit with.

My sister's husband ended up buying the ProOpen (multiple frames) based on our sessions because of the feel and his PureDrives continue to collect dust.

It really is a stock, grip it n' rip it frame. Gut mains would be a wrist-elbow-shoulder-orgasm in this frame.

Cant wait to put the gut in.

Not sure how long it will last though. I really can come over the ball big time with this racquet.

Good stuff, PP.

Arriving tomorrow, just in time for Valentine's: two more Valentine-colored Prestige MP demos, the Yonnie 200 and the wild-card Volkl Organix 10 (though some of the recent comments about the O10 has dampened any excitement for this frame). Problem is, was supposed to have these demos for the weekend but a stick needed to be restrung, apparently, which held up the order, and now I'm headed out of town Friday so I may get just one, maybe two hits (if I'm lucky) with these frames. As long as the weather holds up (chance of rain), MD will be bringing over his new Yonex 100 frames for a Wednesday Demo Blowout.

From my recent outings with my usual PKs, all signs are currently pointing at a pickup of the Prestige MP, and maybe also a 200, for an extended test run with preferred string. I'm really looking for something right in between my two PK sticks, the Ace's precision (just want a touch more forgiveness) and the 7G's power.

I'm on it...

But full assessment will unfortunately take time, as I'm headed to the Big Apple, home of Jeremy Lin, for a week on Friday.

I'm not going to lie: I'm really leaning on just having an IG MP and a 200 ready to go upon my return, for an extended JGads racquet battle.

Are you going to a knicks game? In true Warriors fashion, he saved his best for another team...

200s are easy to snag on the cfieds. so far I am happy with vcore, but i did not forget about the black and gold.

I put weight on the vcore. Racquet is seriously luxe buttercream now. Total max 200g shiz. Not kidding it is blx90 dead with layer of cream cheese on top of that. Dampener irrelevant. The stupid rain foiled me today but it felt good on the wall. Will try it for real tomorrow.

Originally a Houston native, TELL ME ABOUT IT! My Rockets were the (most recent) team to let this kid go. I can't believe he didn't at least show enough in practice or workouts to keep him around, but it seems like destiny that he's in NY. I'm happy for him, and the Knicks. But our general manager delivered the quote of the year regarding letting go of Lin: "Yeah, that was my bad." Still cracks me up.

Would love to catch a Knicks game if I can get a ticket at a decent price. Guessing those are suddenly harder to come by now.

Sounds delicious, my friend. Pretty shocked to hear you don't even need a damp in that thing, after finding it so stiff. But I've also read that it's pretty string sensitive. One guy in the comments I think said "a bunch of people demoed this thing with the wrong string at the wrong tension," but that the frame changed completely with different setups.

Enjoy and keep us updated.

Gads, I would put the Pro Open in the slept-on status like the 7G. Not sure if it would be your thing or not, but I know Ross would freaking love it.

I didn't even know this thing existed. Thought it was the Pro Tour.

Truly think Wilson may have defeated Babolat in terms of pure tweenerdom with this beast. It has such good feel.

I know TourBite works in it as well.

I'm surprised more people don't play it. Maybe Wilson does not give it out to it's sponsored players, but up and coming Wilson Juniors would GOAT this thing so hard.

The PP weight experiment is now in full effect. Maybe I can finally figure out my ultimate specs between the 6.1 and pro opens.

Had a full-on love fest with the PSTGT last night (the heavier stock one). Not sure if it was the string setup or what, but I was 100% comfortable with every shot last night. Hit some screaming backhand returns and hit a couple of ad-side slice serves that hit the curtain at 6' still rising - haven't had that kind of action on my serve since I used the C10Pro.

Here's the question - it's currently strung with B5E/Xcel. The Xcel is getting shredded. So, if I'm going to stay with B5E, I need to find a less expensive cross string.

PP - I'm looking at you for your advice on Babolat Nvy. I know you had a love affair with that as a cross - how is it feel-wise. I've found Xcel to be pretty crisp for a multi, which I personally love. I just can't stomach $18 a set for cross strings.

And before you say it, the 2 frames I have in the mail also have a set of Pacific Classic Gut that will get split and I'll be tossing some poly in the cross. ;)

Maybe have a look at using a poly poly hybrid, I just had b5e 1.24 mains with iontec 1.20 crosses strung at the same tension, the iontec is a soft feeling, more powerful poly and they played very well together, at 45lbs in my melbourne it felt more like x1 than poly but with better spin than you're getting with your set up. It lasts longer too!

I'm a high-tension guy (I tried lower tensions for a while, but never felt comfy with anythin below 55 or so) so not sure how well I'd do with a poly-poly. My setup currently is B5E at 55 and Xcel at 58.

I also found that I didn't love Silverstring like I thought I would in the frame - too muted....

NVy is the best cross IMO because it plays the same until it dies. It also lasts a longer time than a regular syn gut. It has a crisp syn gut feel, but you want to string it lower because it is low powered. Bad Call uses b5e/nvy at around 48/50 in a 90, and it is low powered.

I don't like b5e since I hit with more top. I think b5e is a very low powered poly so when you combine it with the nvy, dont string too tight. In the PSTGT, I'd probably go 50/52.

On my end, I think I may give the iontec one more run. It is too soft and comfy to abandon, but I need to get some ball feel out of it this time. Maybe it will work in the Pro Open..who knows. I have some cyberflash, but I'm wondering another poly I can try the nvy cross with.

Hoping the gut/poly lasts, because that is the goat setup for me regardless of racquets.

My racket wants low tensions that's why its 45lbs.
At 55lbs it would work fine. You should look at the soft powerful co polys it may open your eyes to something very interesting.

I'll certainly give it a shot then. I hear this Iontec name thrown around a lot - might order a set of that. It's inexpensive enough to give a shot, that's for sure. :)

I was loving B5E at 55 last night - plenty of bite, kickers were moving all kinds of nasty-like, and I could flatten the ball out with confidence. That's the biggest thing for me when I go to low tension - I can't flatten out, especially on return of serve, like I can at higher tension. And especially in doubles, that's my M.O. - I prefer to attack the serve and flatten out the return to shorten the reaction time...

ok, if you are hitting flat, then try 55/57 b5e/nvy.

since the xcel is slightly more powerful than n.vy, suggest maybe 54/56 or so for the b5e/n.vy cause it might be on the boardy side but that's only a 1 lb diff.

cool you're getting dialed in on the tension rather quickly. :)

I don't think there is much info on the pro open ross..let me know if you see more.

For you it is a must try if you love the APD, but want a better feel and a little more control. There will never be a grail stick for anybody, but for you this would have to be up there IMO.

For me, I am really working on the footwork aspect more than anything. That has changed so much for me that having the 2 wilsons is perfect timing. Now I can see how heavy I really should be playing at. I have a feeling the answer may be around 11.7ish, but I have no real idea yet. I am so grooved to the 6.1, but I am seeing the plusses and minuses of having that ounce of difference as well.

Any of you holics ever hit with a Donnay Pro One Intl TW re-issue frame of a few years ago? Know nothing of it, but was offered a 9/10 in a trade. Looked up the specs and they look intriguing: 95 sq inches, near 12 oz, 320 SW, 16/18, graphite. I mean, slim chance I'd trade my still-loved BC20 for it, but thought I'd ask.

I really have to say though.I think the grail is really proper technique. When I had my feet moving into the ball properly last night, which is getting more and more habitual, I was pounding the ball equally as hard with both the Pro Open and 6.1 and they both felt like grail sticks..lol.

Had my first serious and dedicated session with n6.1 yesterday and I think that this just may be GOAT/Grail. It took me a few minutes to really get dialed in but was I was there it was pure hitting Nirvana. I was able to really drive the flat forehand but I was able to hit heavy spin as well. And I was loving the flick cross court forehand. I had quite a few nice winners off that shot. It took me a little longer to get settled on the backhand. I think that the older Wilson frames have slightly smaller grips and that was affecting my setup on the backhand. But hitting hard driving shots down the line or cross court is something that this frame just does exceedingly well. My slice is a work in progress at the moment. I seem to be able to get either the nasty spin or the low cutting shot but not both simultaneously. That however, is entirely operator error.

Serves and returns had to be my favorite part though. After a little adjustment and getting used to the swing, serves were bombing. Flat serves just pounded in and my kicker was regularly bouncing around the 6' mark. Very very happy in that area.

I can't rave enough about this frame. It's just so darn good at everything. Plus it has that feel that is distinctly n6.1. Wilson but not entirely Wilson. Like it was the lovechild of same crazy Wilson engineer who had been stealing tech and secrets from another manufacturer. Whatever it is, I am one seriously happy tennis player.

Greetings and salutations!

ry,

Fantastic that the N95 is meeting or even surpassing expectations. FWIW, I find it superior to the BLX in solidness, build quality, and the balance suits more all court play a tad better. That said, the BLX probably suits my game a little bit better. My BLX is also a little lighter.

bc-05,

To answer your closing qsn... whatever floats your boat, as they say. :) BTW, I also thought I must be mad a year or 2 ago or whenever it was because for a while I was just in love with the hefty PC+ Swirly. Mind you, like with a few other things in life, I've never gone for your skinny boney slender kind of build - a man needs something to get hold of after all... ahem...

I strung up the Pro Open with gut mains last night so I will try and get on the courts with it soon.

But I can say that the Pro Open is easier to use than the 6.1. It hits an effortless ball, but obviously will not have the weight on it that the 6.1 imparts. That could easily be fixed with lead though.

That being said, I believe I serve a little bigger with the Pro Open, and I can hit very hard and heavy with it as well in stock as long as ---- wait for it--- my weight is going into the shot.

My timing is off because it is so much lighter, so I need a little more time with it as well.

I can say the stick has incredible feel and is easier on the arm so far than the 6.1.

The 6.1 has a solidity to it that is just wonderfully awesome.

The Pro Open has a plush, tweener feel that is far superior to any Babolat I have used.

I obviously love Wilson sticks, but I honestly feel so far that this is a far better option than a Pure Drive or APDC. It has more feel, flex and control.

I have not used your original APD, but I think this could be a Tweener grail stick so far off my initial impressions. I need more time to get used to it..etc, but of all people here who should demo it, you would be the clear #1 on my list.

I know you like whippy sticks..that is basically a weight and balance thing. This racquet comes through the air much faster than the 6.1, so on running cross court shots, I was much earlier, and many times missing too far wide because of that. That is just a simple adjustment though. I am just used to working a lot harder. When I connected on one properly, it was unreturnable.

Serves are very easy..very powerful. topspin is aggressive since the stick is so light. the main thing I notice is this racquet is optimal for picking up short balls and putting them away. That is one of the toughest shots with the 6.1, and rather easy with the Pro Open. The question is if I can attack with the Pro Open as I like, and that will take a little time to figure out, because my timing is so grooved to the heavy 6.1.

Uh-oh, your beginning to get me interested here Power!:)

First QSN: Tell me about the head/light balance. Isn't it rather Rad Pro-like and a bit head-heavy?

Second: How about the SW and how that translates, especially for 2hb? Although there are a few exceptions, I do tend to find my bh wing benefits from some SW there.

I unpacked the 2009 PSTGTs that I bought - they may have the GPJOAT. Seriously - the 2011 is a nice looking frame, but the 2009 graphic is sublime...

I always really liked the very first PST cosmetics and the Pure Controls that came earlier.

Gads,

Rain is destroying my dreams.

On behalf of any Brits here, let me tell you, I/we know how you feel.

Fed,

So how you doing with that Yonex a week or 2 down the line now?

Yes the balance is 3 pts HL.

BUT, the racquet is not nearly as heavy as the Rad Pro. The issue with the Rad Pro was it had a massive SW, weighed around 11.9 and on top of that was balanced at 2 pts HL. That was just too much unless you are playing a lot of tennis.

What I learned is light sticks like this that balance over 6-7 points HL lose a lot of the beef and begin to feel like flyswatters. The advantage of this balance on the lighter stick is that all that weight in the head really hammers the ball.

The other thing I would mention is I can use this racquet stock as it is very stable. I have 2 now, so I will be polarizing one with 2 grams on the butt and at 12. Just that little bit of lead could take the plow through to the next level, and the SW will be a little higher than the 6.1, while staying around 11.6 in weight.

Backhands are really easy with this stick. Same with the 6.1. I will play tonight and give you more info. All I can say is that it is easy to switch between the 2 racquets, but the Pro Open is a more comfortable, plush hit partly due to a larger sweetspot .

Gads, did you make a wager on that 30 day thing with PP?

Yeah i have to stick with wilson for 30 more days. Dont see that being an issue. These 2 sticks pretty much cover all my needs and it is just a matter of being a spectard and figuring out what gives me the best results on court.

I'm playing so good with this Yonex its crazy. I customized it to my 320/tour90 specs which is around 12.5 with estimated 330sw. Those are imprecise numbers, just going by feel.
I'm playing my best tennis in awhile. Bought another one. Stoked. Comtemplating yonex string, possibly bag...(im the new buckethead (rip) ).
