Early predictions for Slam winners in 2011

She was the heavy favorite this year and I am pretty sure you remeber what happened to her in the 3rd round against Petrova

I dont think she was the heavy favorite. Serena was still the bookies favorite. What happened last year was basically a fluke. She had an off day on a day she ran into a streaky dangerous player on fire who didnt choke as usual. Are you saying the same is automaticaly going to happen this year.

Ozzie: Del potro
French: Nads
Wimbledon: Federer
US open: Del potro

Last year I had the same prediction as above, hope I do better then 1/4 next year.

No, I am saying she is not as consistent on most slams except in New York

Pre retirement she was consistent in Australia even though she didnt win it.

AO 2002- lost tough 3 setter in the semis to the eventual Champion Capriati

AO 2003- lost semis to Serena after being 5-1 up in the 3rd (she was a famed choker back then and Serena is a famed fighter too of course)

AO 2004- lost to Henin in topsy turvey 3 set final.

AO 2005- DNP

AO 2006- retired with injury while trailing in 3rd set to Mauresmo in the semis

AO 2007- lost in semis to Sharapova

That is why I think last years results was a fluke. She can be expected to make the late rounds there again and she now has superior mental toughness and confidence to win it vs before. Serena most times I would back, especialy with her record there, but as I said I think she is due for a loss at this particular event.

AO - Nadal
FO - Nadal
W - Nadal
USO - Nadal

Womens

AO, FO, W, USO - I'll with Nadal for all these as well.

I think Nadal will fade a little next year and Federer will come back with revenge, especially during the clay and grass court seasons. So:

AO - Djokovic or Federer. The 1st grand slam of the year will be key for someone who hopes to win the calender slam. Federer will give it a push but I see Djokovic as a strong favorite also
FO - Federer or Nadal. I believe Federer wants the most is to beat Nadal at the FO once and for all and it might happen next year
W - Federer - I see Federer as the favorite no one else
UO - Federer or Djokovic - Again Djokovic is a title contender here

Woman's:

AO - Serena or Clijsters
FO - Serena or Henin
W - Serena though would love to see Henin complete her career slam
UO - Clijsters or some Russian. Serena will probably skip it

AO: Murray (I predict a big bounceback for him. Everyone's writing him off after the USO, but he still made deep runs at the AO and Wimby and he's probably not even in his prime yet. Even if he is extremely over-rated, he's still due for a HC slam).
FO: Nadal (duh)
Wimby: Fed (I have a feeling Nadal will have to deal with some lingering injury. He's good enough to overcome it at the FO but at Wimbledon, a resurgent Fed will be too strong for him. I also wouldn't rule out Roddick as a longshot here).
USO: Gulbis (I'm calling it now: 2011 for Gulbis will be what 2000 was for Safin. Marat lost in R2 at the 1999 USO, so this is really no less probable than Safin winning was after 1999). But if that longshot doesn't pan out, Delpo should reclaim the USO title fairly handily (assuming good health).

I'm amazed at all the people touting Federer for Wimbledon. Grass court tennis belongs to Nadal, no one else.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

this year i thought nadal would win AO&FO, Fed would win Wimby, and Murray the USO. & look how that turned out.

So, next year I think Nalbandian will win the calendar slam. When in doubt, play it safe. ;)

Women: don't care until my daughter starts playing on WTA :)
ok ok, maybe Henin in all if she plays

I think Rafa has a real shot at the calendar slam in 2011 or 12 if he stays real healthy and schedules his events properly..

Predictions
AO- Nadal / Murray /Djokovic
FO-Nadal
Wimby-Nadal
US- Nadal/ Murray / Delpo / Federer

Womens
AO-Clijsters / Wozniacki
FO-Henin
Wimby - Serena / Sharapova (i think maria shud have resolved serve issues by next year)
US- Clijsters / Serena

I wud love to see azarenka challenge for the slams next year if she gets more consistent ..Also Martina hingis comeback if it happens wud be great but not sure if she can get back to her top level this time

Australian - Federer (Always comes fresh and playing well to the first slam of the year)

French - Nadal (As always, comes with his very best to the clay courts)

Wimbledon - Roddick (He really deserves a second slam and, injury permitting, finds the form he had in '09. Without Fed in the finals, he takes anyone else out)

US - Nadal, Djokovic, Federer (All three have very good summer warm-ups and it can really go to any of them)

In what way does Andy Roddick "really deserve" a to win a slam more than anyone else? Just because you're a fan of his?

not much will change

AO and Wimb = Fed
FO and USO = Nadal

This was Fed's last realistic chance to win the USO. It is unlikely that there will be another Sat/Mon schedule, and at his age, he needs the Sat/Mon schedule.

Women - All = Serena if she is fit, otherwise draw lots amongst the other pretenders

I'm not saying he deserves it more than anyone else, I'm saying that he's worked so hard, not only to stay in the top ten for as long as Federer, but to redefine his game and come back, not once, but twice from his lowest time and get back to the top of the game.

The first time came when he lost in the first round of the US Open in '05, and to Murray in Wimbledon in '06, he came back and got to the finals of the Open that year.

The second time came after his second round loss at Wimbledon in '08, he almost beat the GOAT in the finals.

You can't deny that he's busted his ass for the better part of a decade to stay on top of the game

Men's:

AO- Nadal
FO- Nadal
Wimbly- Nadal
UO- Fed

In all honesty, I still feel UO is Nadal's toughest challenge. I want the Fed/Nadal rivalry to continue so I threw him a slam.

Women's:
AO- Sharapova
FO- Ivanovic
Wimbly- Venus
UO- Venus

Sorry Serena. Take a breather. My predictions are wild yes, but anything is possible in WTA.

Now that the season is over...

AO 2011 Murray
FO 2011 Nadal
Wimbledon 2011 Nadal
USO 2011 Federer

Probably a repeated guess, but I think these three are the likeliest to hold Slams by this time next year.
