Fischer Pro Tour FT

I had a chance to hit with this frame for a few matches this week and I have to say I was very impressed! I have not really hit with many Fischers, but this one had fantastic stability, swung light for its static weight, and allowed me to create some great spin. Extremely comfortable on the arm. There hasn't been much talk on this racquet; are many of you using it, and if so what tweaking have you done. Playing it stock or a bit of lead/ what string setup? I had a hybrid of Lux Ace/Laser Supreme at 59 lbs. on the demo I used. Had decent pop but not alot. The extra .4" helped was good for my 2H BH as well (although the extra length was mainly at the end of the butt/logo, not on the grip area). Is this frame going under the radar? I really liked it and might make the switch. I did a search and did not find a lot of discussion. Any feedback would be great. Thanks

I agree that it is a sweet frame. It does not feel like an "extended" length racquet when I hit with it (I have one in my bag and use it more often recently) and I really love the feel of Fischer sticks. Very maneuverable and has good control and decent sweetspot. I string mine with a full Bi-Phase 17 job at 60 lbs. I think that with the success of the M Speeds (Baghdatis) that this one has gone a little quiet. IMO its the best Fischer frame out there.

Craig and Alley Cat:

Pleased to hear you've found one of the best unknown racquets out there. Been using the Fisher Pro Tour FT for over a year and it's a mystery to me why it doesn't get more attention, especially among folks with a priority to know something beyond the big, mass-market names. I agree with your assessments and won't repeat. I use a small amount of lead tape to provide a bit more heft but otherwise it serves well in all areas of the game. Fischer makes some of the best racquets and would like to see them receive more deserved attention.

I have one of these sticks in my bag. I agree its very underrated. Its super stable, and such a clean hit. Currently I have it strung with Pacific Futura TXT 16L @ 62 lbs, but I think I would prefer a more dynamic string for this one.

Which Pro Tour FT?

I am curious which Pro Tour FT are you all playing (Red - older model) or the Yellow(newer 12 oz model)?

I currently play with the ProTour Extreme FT - I found that I was not enjoying the 16x18 string pattern. I switched back to Dunlop Mfil 200. I really like playing with Fischer racquets too - thinking of selling the Pro TOur Extreme FT and was debating on the Fischer Pro TOur, Dunlop MW 200G and Prince Diablo 93.

I hada a stint with the Pro Tour FT....it really is an excellent racquet with hardly any weankesses...the only reason I ditched it was b/c of the funky square grip shape. I just couldn't get used to it on my forehand.

But the Pro Tour FT excelled at generating spin, nice deep slices, awesome feel on volleys, very comfortable, and control was very good (but not as good as my Yonex TI-70)...it may not have enough pop for some, but if you can generate your own pace, no problem.

I did find it very sensitive to string tension. I found the sweetspot to feel noticeably smaller if strung over 60 lbs. The ideal for me was around 58 lbs. with a softer string. Come to think about it, I wish I had tried a gut hybrid in it.

I think nobadmojo has a glowing write-up about this tick in a TW comparative review...
Wasn't crazy about the cosmetics though...

I just picked up three of the older red models... They seem to be very closely matched. The sweet spot seems to be very low on the string bed, though. A little high in "stock" weight, i like to have a little room for experimentation. From the very VERY limited time i've had with these, they seem to have a soft, solid feel.

maybe others can confirm this, but the one time I tried the newer black and yellow one which is supposed to be the same specs as the red and black, it was definitely a little heavier...could be just manufacturing tolerances...I've tried 2 or 3 red and black ones and they all played similarly and as the specs would indicate.

My knowledge is that the black/yellow Pro Tour FT provides changes compared to the red/black version, my research indicates such although I have not personally hit with red/black version. Comments by Nobadmojo on this board also supports this. Because the racquet is so unappreciated, you can find some real deals if you know where to look.

This racquet was discussed many times. According to the manufacturer there is no difference between the old and new one except for the color. I also hit with this racquet for few weeks and found it to be terrific. Unfortunately like many other posters I developed arm problems even though I tried low tensions, tape, bigger grip and different strings. I had a hard time selling 4 of them even at a very low price.Too bad it does not get what it deserves.

I have not seen this frame discussed many times since I have been on the board (last couple of years). I have never had an arm problem with a Fischer frame, and hit with this one for about a month and had no issues. Great frame and definitely worth a demo or long term hitting. I use the yellow/black one and am going to buy a couple more before they are discontinued. One of the best low swingweight player's frames out there IMO.

I have one I use for windy days. (I also have 4 Volkls in a similar size.) It's a very nice racquet with excellent balance and feel for such a big frame and with the extra length. My hitting partner says I hit heavier with it than with my ROK. I'd recommend it, even if NBMJ does too. :) j/k

What VOLKL racquets do you find similar to the Pro Tour FT?
Thanks.

I have the Volkl 9 x 2 (18 x 20) and a Volkl 10 Tour (16 x 19?). Actually, I think the Volkls play nothing like the FT. I like the Volkl 9s best because I prefer tight string patterns.

Oh, I sold my Volkl C10. So, I only have 3 Volkls now. So, I lied. :)

Is it me or does the Pro Tour Ft just volley like a dream? My net game is pretty lousy, and I remember feeling like I couldn't miss a volley with that thing...I also remember that for some reason I was hitting some of the best slices ever with it....

It's actually quite close in specs to my racquet now, the Yonex Ti-70 Long, except the Yonex is 18x20 pattern.

I'm a Fischer fan since early 80's, and been with Volkls mostly since 96. The sweetspot on the FT seems really small to me, by comparison to mostly everything I've hit with. I had high hopes for this frame during my demo, but came away a little disapointed.

Just my two cents fwiw.

To me, it feels like the sweetspot is definitely there, but just a little low. I'm going to get a good hit in tomorrow with the frame, and see how my arm feels. I've been more or less on a break for a month due to shoulder "tenderness."
