Good tip?

This guy I played with today(5.0) gave me a tip. He said that I'm not hitting with enough topspin, and that is because when I make contact with the ball, not only am I not hitting it out in front enough, but the racquet face isn't in a vertical positing, it's bent. This is what he means:

before I was hitting like this:

-/O

I'm now hitting shots with so much more topspin, it's insane. Except on my one handed backhand, haven't really gotten it down yet.

But I thought the racquet face needed to be tilted forward, while on an upward swingpath, in order to generate topspin?

You guys are thinking too much. Just swing up and let your body mechanics take over. You just need to hit a lot of balls and let your body discover what works best for it.

Sorry, but I want to improve, if I do that, I'll never get past the 3.5 level.

briberio, he is correct. If you already have a low to high swing path, one thing that will help you place more spin on the ball is to hit more out in front.

And yes, you want your racquet to be vertical--not tilted forward, unless you are hitting a high ball and want a more downward trajectory.

Good luck!!

Well, if you hit it out in front more than your racket face would automatically open up more, so you don't have to specifically pay attention to the racket face.
