Greater grass court player, Murray or Roddick ?

"Nobody likes you."

Rosol deserved it and Murray was pretty much just conveying how the vast majority of players seemingly feel towards him. That's a different type of trash talk to what Roddick was known for, where he was basically being a total @rsehole for the sake of it.

And Muzz would never trash talk his fellow competitors or hold them up against a changing room locker.

Yes, after all, what is all the active humanitarian work he has done and been awarded for throughout his career and even more so in retirement compared to one quarrel with your male tennis idol?

Always love the pettiness TTW can conjure up for people they really do not know at all.

Just a shame he wasn't so charitable during his days on the tour. Anyway he's gone now and this beautiful sport is all the better for it.

Roddick is underrated on grass mainly because people judge him on zero Wimbledon title. Any player would have a slim chance on grass against Federer's peak years. Murray can't even beat Federer who's best years are behind him in 2012 Wimbledon.

Both times Murray lost to Federer at Wimbledon, Roger was playing pretty much at the same level as during his peak years so there's really not that much difference compared to the version Roddick had to face.

You don't think Roddick's peak on grass wouldn't have beaten 2012 Federer at Wimbledon? I think he has a good chance. Mind you that he was VERY close in beating Roger in 2009 final.

I doubt Roddick would beat any version of Federer at Wimbledon, no matter how well he was playing. He simply didn't have the mentality for it.

Have you ever saw Roddick played during his prime years? I heard posters in here said you started watching tennis in 2011.

Well, Roddick did push Federer to 5 sets at Wimb. Murray has only won 1 set against 30+ year old Fed in 2 matches combined.

This doesn't mean as much as Federer fans think it does. Benneateu came closer to beating Federer at Wimbledon than Murray did. Doesn't mean he's a better grass player than Murray, neither does it mean he has a higher top level.

Yet you're the first to say Djokovic taking Nadal to 5 sets in 2013 RG makes him a better player than Fed on clay :D

You are a Nole fan and since Murray is Nole's rival I can understand you underestimate Roddick on grass.
LOL give me a freaking break. Roddick is not that good. Djokovic was not even on the tour when Roddick was sucking with his flailing game.

The 2015 semifinal was definitely a peak performance and the 2012 final he was at least as good as 2009 so not too sure what you find so funny.
I will say 2012 was as good as 09 but none of 08 - 15 are anywhere near his 03 - 06 level. That's just insane to say.

15 was a tight servebot performance, almost Sampras esque. I still rank that below 03-06 as the sets were close and his movement/ground game nowhere near as good.

Did I say that? Can't remember if I did. They are around the same imo, not much to choose from considering their similar stats and results. Both are not able to beat prime Nadal anyway. Things are different between Murray vs Roddick though. Murray has surpassed Roddick in every aspect including results against top players.

My bad thought you did. Of course Murray has but he had weaker competition and peak level not much in it.

Get a grip. Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are not, by any stretch of the imagination, weaker competition anywhere or at any time!

Murray's Wimbledon winning competition is 2013 Djokovic and Raonic. Both vastly inferior to prime Federer.

2013 Djokovic was world #1 and already had a Wimbledon title. Moreover Murray beat Djokovic and Federer back to back at the 2012 Olympics at Wimbledon.

2013 Djoko at Wimbledon was his worst grass showing between 2011-2015. Tamely lost in straight sets.

If Murray had to face 03, 04, 05, 09 Fed he wouldn't have won I don't think.

12 final was on the similar level as 09, but he was just clearly more confident in 09 , having won RG and he came into the Wimbledon final having lost 1 set.

Roddick took Federer too the brink in 09; In 12, Murray played well, but still lost in 4.

No prizes for guessing who did better and who was clearly more impressive.

Tbh I wasn't that impressed with 09 Wimbledon, especially from the baseline. Serve was outstanding that day though.

12 seems more impressive to me, especially schooling peak Djokovic.

So you don't think Murray won that match only that Djokovic lost?

Ifs, buts and maybes.
Murray definitely earned that win, he was superb. But he wouldn't win vs Federer at Wimbledon, no matter how many exho Olympic matches he wins. That match up doesn't favour him.

The Olympics is not an exho. It's a tournament that Federer, Djokovic, Nadal and Murray (and most top players) badly want to win which is why they always make sure they are available to play it. Beating Federer in a best of 5 final on Centre Court at Wimbledon, virtually Federer's home venue, always increases the likelihood that he could do it during an encounter at The Championships at some point. Federer always has to be at his very best to beat Murray there.

Federer has 19 top ten wins on grass, Murray has 13, Roddick has 2.

Either roddick deftly navigated the murky waters of grass tennis, masterfully avoiding top 10 players, or this superior peak level only popped up once in a blue moon, and typically only against scrubs*.

butthay! this one time he looked real good as he lost so.

Olympics has no history in tennis and basically no value, same as IPTL...sorry to tell you that, mate

Just because you say Roddick isn't that good doesn't mean it's a fact. But that's what you expect from a pro Nole fan.

Roddick had prime/peak Federer on grass, a more formidable opponent than Nole/Raonic who Murray have beaten.

I don't think he was any more impressive from the baseline in the 12 SF than in the 09 wimby final. Only the last 2 sets of the final was peak-like from the ground.

Roddick actually played really well from the baseline and at the net in the 09 wimby final. So that makes Federer's baseline play look unimpressive on the 1st viewing ( when you are expecting that Federer will dominate from the baseline). He was still playing well from the baseline in the 09 final. Only his return was below par for him (same as Roddick)

I don't understand why there's endless adjusting of tennis' criteria. It's grand slams, ranking, titles. Pretty simple. Maybe Roddick hit better shots in his warm ups or is winning matches in an alternate universe, I don't know.

He kicked Murray's arse at Wimbledon 2009.
