An intriguing encounter in the first round of the Rogers Cup opposes Sebastien Grosjean and Mikael Youzhny. Grosjean has been a semifinalist of a Grand Slam on all 3 major surfaces, an Australian Open semifinalist in 2001 where he choked away a final berth in the semis vs his good buddy Arnaud Clement when he had the match sewn up, a French Open semifinalist in 2001 (beat Agassi in the quarters), and a Wimbledon semifinalist in both 2003 and 2004.
Youzhny of course has had quite a good year, which includes a win over Nadal in Dubai, and another near defeat of Nadal at Wimbledon. He has lost to Federer or Nadal in all 3 slams this year, either the 3rd round or 4th round. He plays his best on hard courts, and was a semifinalist at the U.S Open last year.
Youzhny is ranked 60 places higher, however Grosjean is 4-0 vs Youzhny all time. That head to head might be meaningless given where both are in their careers, but still interesting. Their last match was early last year in Marseille, and Grosjean killed Youzhny, although Grosjean was the higher ranked player actually at the time.
