Agreed. Why do they have this kind of schedule anyway? Just let them play 1 match after the other without a 2 or 3 hour break in between. I mean this is not a Slam were you can rest the next day.

Normally I would agree with you, because Baggy doesn't do so well in Masters Series but he earned his SF beating Ferrero, Ljubicic and Davydenko all in straight sets. Granted Davydenko played like crap and Ljubicic is all but done.

I agree the schedule is bad but it wasn´t a problem of Youzhny being tired.
Same thing happened to Nadal in Madrid playing against Murray in the night session and against Nalbandian the day after in the afternoon. Blake also finished his match against Mahut late in the night and had to play Gasquet the day after in the afternoon. People can complain about the schedule but let´s make it everytime with every player.

Nadal's last 3 wins over Youzhny were on clay in Rome, grass at Wimbledon, and hard courts today. I have never heard of blue clay, they do have green clay events in America but I am not sure if Youzhny and Nadal have ever played on those.

Of course I was being sarcastic. Everytime Nadal makes a good performance on a non-clay surface some people here say that the surface is as slow as clay, he had a lucky draw or whatever instead of giving credit to him.And talking of the match Nadal is playing very well again. He needed to play and win some competitive matches to gain confidence after his knee problems and his absence. This surface is better for him than other hardcourts but that´s not the only reason he played that well. He is serving well again, playing aggressive and his passing shots are insane. 6-4 6-2 over Youzhny is a good win and it makes the head-to-head 6-3. I´m not a big fan of head-to-heads but there was a lot of talking when Youzhny beat Nadal so I think it´s necessary to point it out.

It sounds like some people are desperate to prove a point, even a fabricated one.I don't see why you wouldn't agree with me. First of Ferrero is like his past shadow, Ljubcic is done and davydenko tanked because he had to catch his flight to china. Yes, He got lucky

i saw the first 4 games of the match last night and rather liked Youzhny's 1hbh -- seemed clean and often good, deep placement. Also, seemed flat, not top-spinny.
Am i correct in that assessment ... i am a newbie, i use the 1hbh, so i tend to watch 1hbh'ers carefully, and i am trying to learn to assess them.
otoh, I somehow find robredo's 1hbh a bit "boring" - don't know how to explain that.
Any comments on youzhny's bh?

thanks, but i don't mean from the learning or copying perspective, more from being able to appreciate/critique.
actually, now that you mention it, i find my 1hbh often a lot more accurate if i keep the left hand on the throat a tad longer. I am not sure you can call that a 1.5 (haha) cos the hand is on the throat for angling (in my case, at least) and not on the handle for giving support or power.
i have heard a lot of Haas, but they show v little of him on TV here. Did see a bit of him last night, a very nice full volley BH drive. (I did that recently and netted it.)

^^ his technique is awesome and clearly very effective. Also, a lot of the time he hits a traditional topspin backhand. But in those 1.5HBH situations I had mentioned, he technically speaking drives the ball with the right hand, yet instead of "uncoiling" or whatever it's called, he turns his shoulders through the shot (which is how you drive 2HBH) and his left hand thereafter follows through in the direction of the ball (although not touching the racquet). Anyways, he's great - too bad he lost to Nadal today.
