HELP!!! Stringer's Digest circa 1987 Needed!!!

I have just purchased a MacGregor Berginlin Longstring Racquet made back in the mid 80's. Although I am thrilled to have it, I have NO IDEA how to restring it if/when the strings break. I suspect they are the original strings and since I don't plan to let it sit and collect dust, it is only a matter of time before they break.

I did some research and found that the string pattern was printed as "MacGregor Bergelin LongString tennis racquet stringing instruction" in the Stringer's Digest, 1987, pp. 78-79. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have never seen one, I have linked a few pictures...

I attempted to find this racquet for you with the online digest from the USRSA, and all it comes up with is to contact the USRSA for instructions and pictures to string this one, so if you are a member of the USRSA ,this would be the best way to go as they will supply you the needed information, unless someone here has strung this and has the instructions to pass along.(BTW, you spelled the name wrong on your post, and that took longer to come up on the site to even find this. It is spelled Bergelin).
How does the racquet hit??

I might have that issue. I'll check this weekend for you. Keep your fingers crossed!

Wow! That brings back memories. I never played with it but I saw it a couple of times. Let us know how it hits!!

I'm assuming that the numbering system on the frame has to do with the stringing. Can you follow it well enough to figure it out?

I have no idea why I have this but I do! I was a stringer back in the 80's (and now again) but have never seen one of these rackets in person before.

Snipergene, you are the *****' man!

Thanks for posting. I hope anyone that runs across one of these racquets finds their way to this page. You have made life a little easier (or harder given the directions, LOL!) on a few of us.

Thanks again, man.

That's amazing. I also see that you have to have 54' of string! Good luck with stringing this beast. Glad it's you and not me...

I wonder how a poly would stand up to the extreme angles of that tensioning block?

Any thoughts from the poly users of the forum?

Wow, I don't have or ever will have one of those racquets, but that's amazing Snipergene...kudos for digging that out and spending the time to scan and post.

The internet and the info to be found constantly amazes me. Yeah, sometimes gotta wade through people trying to spoil the experience but seeing stuff like this restores the faith!

Superb stuff as I've got one of these!

Thanks:):)

Warning though, these do crack at 10 and 2 o'clock on the corners, if tightened too much for too long!

As a stringer I am amazed at this find. I have never seen one of those in all my years stringing and being around the tennis world.

If I had to string one of those I would do it once for the experience then never do it again!

My friend gave me two of these this past weekend. He found them at a thrift store and texted me from the store asking if I wanted them. He did warn me the strings were broken.

I said, “Buy them. I’ve got to try these.”

I’ll give them an attempt sometime this winter. This looks like fun! The kind of fun I had as a young adult that resulted in throwing up and waking up in random places. There’s many good reasons I don’t do those things anymore!
