She managed to pass R1 qualies 6-2, 6-3. Looked decent - but of course, it depends on who's on the other side of the net. Next up is winner of Yastremska D. (12) v. Watson H. It will be a first time match-up with either player.

I tip my hat to her for working hard to get back in the tour, while she most likely have many other avenues to earn decent living (commentating, etc.).

Bouchard seemed to be walking towards Dayana, but Dayana walked straight to the ump. This no handshake thing is getting ridiculous, especially seeing behavior like this from Dayana. (n)

Still quite a bit of UE from Bouchard, and shot tolerance during rallies. Dayana took advantage (hit winners) of many of Bouchard's weak serves - even 1st serves.

I always pull for Yastremska. She seems to get a lot of hate for no good reason. Classic example being the backlash over the "half black, half white" photoshoot that she did.

Are these players taking it seriously or are they doing it because they are having silly numbers thrown at them?

Jack Sock and Sam Querrey were interested before the silly $ … can’t speak to the rest.

Jack Sock is already very good … has obviously played a lot of pickleball with very good players. Give him a year against best competition and who knows.

Windsurfing came and went in the 80’s - it was the cool thing n then it wasn’t.

While I am a certified pickleball hater it is quite a bit more accessible than windsurfing.

Pickleball looks like a sport invented for out of shape boomers with no eye-hand coordination at an Old Orchard camping ground. Sorry but that’s the vibe I get from this sport.

Agree there - hope it stays at the rec level but the multiples being handed out on these pro tours to lock down players without any solid revenue coming in just don’t make sense. It’s like the Saudis just turning on a few more oil wells for some mess about money.
Yeah exactly. As a spectator sport it gives off disc golf or bowling vibes; even the game itself is played widely, the competition will never present as something serious and elevated.

I thought she has given up on tennis and switched completely to pickleball. Maybe she's still trying since she's still "physically young" as she said in recent WTA article from her press session.

`While I’m physically still young enough why not still do tennis?’ I’ll pursue other projects later on, but right now let me just see what I can do until I decide not to play anymore.”

Interesting ... didn't know that Bouchard had a 2-0 H2H against Kudermetova. Last match was in 2020 Prague Open 6-0,6-3 against seeded 8 Kudermeto as a WC.

Late reply, but I agree completely. The economics make no sense... at all. And I'm a guy that sat there in my WeWork office, in 2017, laughing with my boss when they were valued at however many billion dollars. We were both wondering what in the world we could be missing...
