This thread needs a poll, and to be moved to the tips/instructions forum. But what the heck. Righty 1hbh.

The one thing we have in common :)

@OP, you should put a poll on this thread.

Unfortunately I operate from the IPad app which makes organising and indeed viewing and voting in polls impossible.

By all means over to you should you wish to redo the thread.

Lefty, both single and double

Ditto. I played the 1-handed BH exclusively for more than 25 years. I hit more slice BHs than topspin BHs. However, on slow or medium-paced incoming balls, I could hit my topspin BH very aggressively -- even moreso than my FH.

Started to develop a 2-handed BH for a short time when I got my first case of TE. When my left shoulder started acting up, I went back to the 2-hander. When the shoulder got really bad, I learned to pretty hit serves and FHs with my right arm.

Never quite got the hang of the 1-handed BH with my right arm. Developed a pretty mediocre 2-handed righty BH.

I'm lefty. My neat trick is I can hit overheads with either left or right hand, thus avoiding the nasty backhand high volley/overhead.

You should watch Tsonga play more. He uses the one hander sometimes.
I use both, probably 40/60. For me it depends on the shot I'm given.

I've never seen anyone play single and double.

Practically speaking, you must choose one or the other.

For me, it also depends on the situation --it could the incoming ball, my position or my preparation . It can also be dictated or heavily influenced by the condition of my dominant elbow or shoulder (as I mentioned previously).

I still use the 1-handed slice more than the other 2 options. If I prepare early enough, I'll hit topspin with a 1-handed stroke. If I try to do this when my prep is slightly late, it can be painful (esp in the shoulder). The 2-handed stroke will allow for a prep that is a little bit later.
