maxply mcenroe comfortable on arm/shoulder?

Hi,

Does anyone have any feedback on how the maxply mcenroe is in terms of comfort for someone suffering from a sore shoulder? The rating seems fairly stiff, but I was wondering if it plays softer than the rating would suggest. Do softer strings (sensation etc.) help?

cheers,
-dave

i have never used it, but i've heard that it can be pretty harsh on the elbow and shoulder. it seems like many people bought them right when they went on sale for cheap, but have since given them up for that very reason.

It plays pretty stiff even with softer strings. I developed shoulder pain with it over the course of a month or so.

Played it for approx. 6 months. Wonderful S&V frame. But I developed elbow and wrist pain after about 2 months. Since I had never had either before assumed it was just old age. But it kept coming back, even after rest. So I tried softer strings. Still a problem. Finally realized it was the MaxPly McEnroe. The minute I put it down the problem went away.

Too bad as it was a great doubles frames.

dunlop makes really boardy and stiff racquets, take the 200g for example.

Well, the Max200G was the most comfortable graphite racquet known to mankind. And many people love the Revelation 200G and the MW200G and find them both to be very comfortable.

thats old dunlop though, im talking about new dunlop, those new m-fil's are really boardy and stiff for some reason..

I own a maxply and I have to see it's one of the most painful racquets I've hit with. I may have strung it too tight, but I don't think it's arm friendly.

I have the maxply mcenroe and the m-fil 200 on its way for me to demo. Im a 4.0-4.5 ish play that has in the past occasionally suffered from elbow/shoulder problems. Just hang tight I can give you a trustworthy comfort review on both. But after reading this thread, I really want to cancel those 2 racquets on the demo, and go with an O3 and something else with a history of arm comfort. But then people may be wrong. hmmm.

Count me among the ex-Maxply players who gave it up due to shoulder pain. My shoulder didn't get as bad as some other Maxply players on this board because as soon as it started getting painful I switched off of it for awhile. When I tried to go back to it, it felt heavy and I couldn't get the timing back.

If you can handle the stiffness and swingweight, the Maxply gives a great plow-through and stable feeling for a mid-11 oz racquet.

I've been playing with the Maxply McEnroe for several months (nearly every day) and have had no pain issues at all. I do use a soft-string setup -- Wilson Sensation 17s in the mains and Gosen Sheep Micro 17s in the crosses -- and string at medium tension. For what it's worth I had a serious bout of tennis elbow a couple of years ago, so am cognizant of that possibility. Prior to the Maxply I used a leaded-up 300G and loved it but wanted a bit more power. Both the 300G and the Maxply are great racquets -- the 300G offers more spin but the Maxply of course has more pop.

I have been using the Maxply for the last 4 - 5 months now. I agree that it is a stiff racquet. However, I am able to stick to it even with a poly/syn gut hybrid.

What I have done is

1) replace the leather grip with a cushion synthetic grip.

2) I added some weight under the grip to maintain the 4-5 point headlightness and the total weight is 12 oz.

The hybrid I am using is Poly Polar 58/Gosen Micro 60 (both 17G)

After 3 - 4 sets of singles, I do feel a very slight discomfort in the elbow and shoulder but that goes away the second day. I carry a PK 5G in my bag as a backup just in case.

I had the opportunity to play with my new Maxply Mac the other night and experience no arm/shoulder problems at all. Of course it was only one night of play (2 sets of singles/2 sets of doubles/3.5 hours) so over the long run it may cause problems. I'll let you know if any arrise.

Yonex Tour Super 850 Pro Spin string is in it and I believe I had it strung a little too tight but no arm problems at all.
