Nadal is now the only KING of a slam (7 RGs), as federer tied sampras at wimbledon

No other slam has a king now, since federer tied sampras at wimbledon. Kind of a shame. It was good to have a wimbledon king. Hopefully federer can win another wimbledon one day so we once again have an official king of wimbledon.

Who do you think will become the next king of a slam? Will it be federer at wimbledon, or djokovic (3 AOs) or federer (4 AOs) at the australian open? That australian open kingship is kind of up for graps, as the leaders have 'only' 4 each. The US Open leaders have 5 each.

Federer at the U.S. Open by the end of the summer, then at the AO, then at Wimbledon. He'll be King of Three Slams and have 20 slams total.

Classy Rogi will let good buddy Rafa keep the French as his own, though.

Well Fed's tied for open era AO, W, and USO records....so basically he can break either of those 3 (just needs one more) and rule them alone....but the fact that at 3 out of 4 majors, Fed's tied for the record, well that's damn impressive.
I actually think Federer will win this year's U.S. Open barring any mental collapse, and see him becoming king there.

Federer is tied at most wins for 3 Slam tournaments currently. Even if Nadal held 10 RGs he couldn't budge Roger.

This is some amusing muck-raking. Nadal's also king at MC, Barcelona etc. I'm guessing? He can have his little clay stronghold, he's welcome to it.

Butthurt because Nadal has started a decline? 17-11 son.

Look I am a Fan of Federer and Nadal...but You can not compare a slam count when one guys has had way more chances to win than the other guy.

Fed's been on Tour for 3 More years Nadal
If you look at win percentages at Slams...Fed's actually trailing Nadal

Nadal

Australian Open 12.5%
French Open 87.5%
Wimbledon 25%
US Open 11.2%

Career So far at Majors 33.4%
By Wimbledon age 26 he had 11 Majors

Federer

Australian Open 30.8%
French Open 7.2%
Wimbledon 50%
US Open 41.7%

Career So far at Majors 32.1%
By Wimbledon age 26 he had 11 Majors

And just for fun (the closest guy active to Fedal)

Djokovic

Australian Open 37.5%
French Open 0%
Wimbledon 12.5%
US Open 14.3%

Career So far at Majors 16.2%

That's why there is still a Goat debate going and will continue to go till they both retire.

Yes because I am the one simply pointing out statistics of a rivalry that is hard to compare considering difference in age time on tour etc...

Do I think Rafa will eclipse Fed? Probably not but no one thought he would ever win a US Open either.

That and in my entire time on this forum I have made no suggestions that some complete stranger who I have no idea of really knowing is stupid...or any other childish names for that matter. I simply come to discuss a sport I enjoy to play and watch.

For all you know I could be involved with the creation of one of the leading cancer research facilities on the east coast that has developed some of the treatments that have given cancer patients a lease on life instead of a death sentence.

But thank you for your assessment of my intelligence based on a post you probably only read the last line of.

and for those head pains it may be due to eye strain from to much time on the web...or possibly dehydration so be sure to drink lots of fluids.

Quite extraordinary that Nadal could go down as the only king of a slam in the open era.

And that will be decided by Nadal's willingness to win Wimbledon for the remainder of federer's career. Certainly a worthwhile endeavor, even if he may enter each Wimbledon a bit fatigued at times from the greater endeavor that is 10 Roland Garros titles.

The Australian Open is very possible, too. Nadal reached the final this year losing 7-5 in the 5th set, indicating that he closed the gap with Djokovic. Nadal only needs to win it 4 more times, and if Djokovic's level can't be improved from the AO 2012 final, Nadal could be the king of TWO slams on TWO different surfaces. Nadal would go down as someone who would completely dominate at least the first half of the year.

That's right, only 4 more times.

In other news, Soderling only has to win 18 more Grand Slams to take the GOAT title off of Federer. Can you imagine what it's like to be so agonizingly close!? Torture.

Can't wait for that AO, been while since he won that. And he may have played better this year at the AO than 2009.

And as for Roland Garros, Nadal will always be ahead of Federer when it comes down to who has been the biggest king of a slam. If Federer does somehow manage to win an 8th Wimbledon, it will take quite a while (possibly after an even longer slam drought than before), at which point Nadal will have 10, possibly even more Roland Garros titles.

I thought rafa had the age advantage because he was younger and was racking up slams quicker than fed?

No?

should fed win one more USO, WB or AO he will have open era records for each..

but its cool rafa rules FO, he is CC goat overall

Meanwhile Roger is open era GOAT. Only stopped on clay by rafa or else his slam count would have bordered on the absurd.

I personally feel that this is an excellent post. For starters it's all facts, and it's not a poster saying, my idol is better then your idol. You're absolutely right Nadal is the king of Roland Garros, and holds 7 French Open titles. And it's also true that Federer has 7 Wimbledons as does Sampras, and from that stand point Nadal stands alone.

It should also be stated that 7 is the most number of slams that anyone has won of one tournament in all the years of tennis. (credit to wikipedia)

US open (before open era) 7 won by Sears, Lerned, and Tilden
(open era) 5 won by Connors, Sampras and Federer

French open (all eras) 7 won by Nadal (8 were won by a player before 1925, but only french players were allowed)

Australian open (before open era) 6 by Emerson
(open era) 4 won by Agassi and Federer

Wimbledon (before open era) 7 won by Renshaw
(open era) 7 won by Sampras and Federer

Looking at these stats shows how big it is to be standing alone at 7 titles in any era. As for the open era the question is will Nadal get to 8 and be the only player on the men's side in history to hold 8 titles for any specific slam, will Federer do it with 8 at Wimbledon, or will Federer be the next to hold the most US Open, or Australian open for the open era. Or will Djokovic do it by getting two more Australians. It's going to be a few interesting years as far as these records go.

Until Soderling allowed Fed to win one, that is. Then, it was the greatest achievement in the history of mankind.

It was a great achievement for someone with a sophisticated gentleman’s game like Federer to tame the savage primitive beast that is clay. You don’t want to do that too often and get yourself too dirty bringing your game down to that level. He has a higher goals and pursuits to worry about like Wimbledon.
