Prediction: Thiem will never win another title

Legend
@thomasferrett Thiem must be your favorite player in reality based on your preferences, heavy topspin forehand and extremely heavy one handed backhand. Even his serve is loaded with extreme topspin. He is like an even heavier hitting version of Almagro. I know you are trolling for some laughs, but what do you actually think about his game?

Sorry, but your hero got his spirit broken time and time again by Fed and Rafa.

Thiem always pumps himself up right to the last point, win or lose.

They dont call him "The Austrian Death Machine" for nothing.

Thiem can only dream of having the success against Fed and Rafa that Murray has had. Deal with it!

Some people are actually predicting this guy will one day be a Slam winner (by the way, the COVID Open doesn't count as a Slam, so Thiem is still slamless).

However, I'd like to assert the notion that Thiem is already in terminal decline at a fast rate (can't even reach the final of the his strongest Slam anymore, let alone win it), and Rublev thouroughly dominates him. Not only will his peers overtake him, but those who are already declining (like the Big Three) will pull ahead of him further because he is declining at a faster rate than them.

Not only will he never win a Slam, but he will never win another TITLE (even an ATP 250. He's just not capable of that kind of level will his lack of talent and weapons. Trying to rely solely on a clutch mental game (like edging Nadal on tie-breaks) is not a winning strategy - you need the talent and the game in the first place otherwise mental toughness is meaningless. Thiem has already overachieved due to his mental game, because in terms of actual tennis; he's nothing.

EDIT, oh, and while I remember it; Sinner as well. He'll never win another title. Just another hype job.
I do not agree.

Even when choking, he will still win several titles!
Several titles including masters and slams. Don't know how many, but he will win.

Time will tell.

Since we're all beating OP up over the Alcaraz predictions, it's only fair to give him some credit on this one. Thiem hasn't won a title of any kind since the USO. Doesn't look promising in terms of winning anything in the future. I wouldn't have thought the USO would be it for him, but maybe he got this one right?

Contrary to the nonsense of your "predictions" about the wonder boy, I must congratulate you for seeing Dominic Thiem's decline before everyone else.

this is still a great prediction because most of his failed ones were made after this thread......it is incredible how correct he got this one, not even a single 250 title won after his us open victory......
After the US Open title, Them made it to the final round of the ATP Finals that year (2nd year in a row) where he lost to Medvedev. So, a pretty decent showing there even tho he didn't come away with the title there.

Cuz of a knee and serious wrist injury, he missed half the 2021 season. Hand injury & 2 illnesses in 2022 (one of those was COVID-19). He missed 2 slam events again that year. Never seemed to regain his form or top 10 status (for 5+ years) after 2020.

@thomasferrett is a much needed antidote to the constant faux optimism and critical hype-mania that predominates the current (but not historic) internet. To counterbalance out your McEnroes, Ariases, Wilanders calling every latest slam winner the "GOAT", you have the austere, clear-minded cynic thomasferrett providing a much-needed dose of reality: most players are one and done, and either burn out or fade away.

He is the Pauline Kael of our tennis time, willing to brave himself against the fanatics and bandwagoneers whose fragile positivity turns to slings and arrows at the slightest reproach to their beloved fixation.
