It was.

2004-2007 was beautiful stuff.

2004: 74-6 (92.5%) 11 titles, 3 slams

2005: 81-4 (95.2%) 11 titles, 2 slams

2006: 92-5 (95%) 12 titles, 3 slams

2007: 68-9 (88.3%) 8 titles, 3 slams

Nobody in tennis history has ever had 4 straight years of such results.
Not since 2015 what was so talked about so unlikely Fed beats Novak now. It’s been many years. Long time ago of course different story.

Well your quote seem to imply it was not important for Rafa.

Fed winning seals YE#1. Pretty big deal for Rafa.
It’s not important enough to risk anything.
He never said being n1 is meaningless. He said he aims playing long time and his health more important

Rafa will never get the n1 records anyway, Novak can, and specially if he beats Fed tomorrow he will likely steal Feds records.
I don’t think either Rafa or any Rafa fan thinks Rafa will take the weeks. On the other hand Novak wants it and his fans think he can do it too. So much more in stake for Novak and Federer tomorrow.

Maybe. I don't see it as a big deal for Djoker. But I do see it as a big deal for Feds future mental state.

Novak said it matters a lot. Rafa on these surfaces not great. He never said he chasing y1 records.
players have different goals, obviously. No one is the same.

earlier this year Novak said he wants to tie Sampras, his idol, in YN1. 6.
Well, however you want to look at it, it is important for all 3. Some may want it more than others. I think Fed needs it for mental reason, Djoker for records, and Rafa because it is a nice accomplishment regardless (he does care about it to an extent obviously).

Hm. This is between Novak and Federer and it’s their records in stake. Rafa is far away to get weeks records So for them the most important imo.
Seems it will take a lot for Federer to have a chance to stop him though.

For me, I was always rooting for Fed and then Rafa. However, there has been a lot of talk lately about Rafa and djoker fans having bromances.

I would assume Rafa fans will be cheering for Fed come Thursday. Will be an exciting and big match for the big3 and their fans.

Winner moves on, loser is out. If Fed wins, Rafa take YE#1.

Hopefully Fed can challenge Djoker.

Vamos Fed?

Unite to go against Djokovic? No way!

Excellent post. #1 for Nadal should be meaningless. It's SLAMS SLAMS SLAMS..and slams. Nadal will ALWAYS be below Fed and Novak in #1 and YEC titles as well as slam distribution.

So for Nadal to have ANY MERIT in the GOAT race, he needs to finish with more slams than Fedovic. Only then would he even be considered the greatest of this era.

So for Nadal it is all about trying to win more slams, but also hoping that the next gen can stop Novak (especially) and Fed.

Djokovic has more trouble with the young guns than Rafa does, so Rafa has more years left at the top than Djokovic does :)
Also, Rafa has better groundstrokes and net-play, whereas Djokovic is reliant on foot-speed more, so the aging process will hurt Djokovic the most....
Good chance Rafa is year-end-#1 for 2019 and 2020.

I hope you are right that Rafa will win more than Novak from now on!

A man with 20 majors, 310 weeks at #1, ranked #1 at age 36 and by far the most beloved tennis player of all time will have an abundance of good memories from his career.

Fan ... be realistic please. He'll take a lot of good memories but he'll also most definitely take the disappointing ones as well which is why @TheGhostOfAgassi makes a valid point.

I'd have to admit that I have always liked to watch Djoko beating Fed. Even if he does it tomorrow I'll enjoy it (with all due respect to the GOAT), but I voted for Fed in this particular case, yes, even if I'd enjoy watching Djokovic winning I like seeing Nadal as Year End #1 more.
