Right side of the wrist

Well it hasn't been long since i posted about my shoulder problem....actually, it has. And yet, my shoulder has not healed.
Well i have a wrist problem now, my right wrist on the right side of it. (The bump area, and near there)
Some motions i do like open a door that hurt it hard, even if i do it in slow motion...but i can't intentionally do it because the motion is very hard to catch.

Anyone know the problem? solution? time of solution<xd ? I really want to play tennis and all these injuries are messing everything up.
Thanks

I had the same wrist issue about a month ago. Got it from leading with the lower part of my wrist on topspin forehands.
rest for 2 weeks. this will help your shoulder at same time :)
ice it 3-4 times daily
use a compression band

mine is about 95% healed. Takes about 5-6 weeks to get back to 100% if you take the safe and smart route. Could be chronic or last 3-4 months if you play through it.

Oh God 3-4 times :| its bad because i haven't played for almost 2 weeks and i only iced it about once lol.
I don't think it would last 3-4 months, i think it would be endless if you play through it. Because if you are sure it could last 3-4 months then please tell me because i rather play through it xd. (i think its endless since it got worse as i played, so i don't think it will get better if i play)

Alright thanks a lot that cheered me up, i thought this was another 1 year injury like my damn shoulder.

*starts icing*

also massage the area 3-4 times a day. It hurts like hell initially during massage but it will help in 3-4 days.

generally, the problem is during sleeping, you put your wrist in awkward positions and may have noticed more pain in the mornings. I actually slept with the wrist compression band for a few days.

I rested for 2 weeks, then played through it but only sliced the ball (backhand and forehand :) ) for 2-3 weeks. I have now moved to flat groundie's. couple more weeks and I will be back with topspin (and correct technique I hope)

I remember the first week or 2, I could not open doors or lift half gallon of milk/juice.. Now I can lift a gallon of milk with just a bit of discomfort.

Your injury is either more severe or different from mine. My wrist rarely hurts when i open a door. I also don't feel pain when i massage my wrist, nor do i feel pain when i sleep (or after) . I agree on the slicing part though, every part of it. Well hope your wrist gets better soon. Actually, congrats that it's 95% healed! It seemed like a very bad injury since you couldn't even lift a gallon of milk without pain. :d Yeah losing technique, worst part of an injury concerning tennis!

Sounds very similar to my problem. It started in August, I had trouble hitting a forehand it got so bad (in the same area). I rested for a couple of weeks and tried playing again, it didn't seem any better. I went in to the doctor and they gave me a cortisone shot and told me to rest it a while longer. That worked for a coupl of weeks the it came back even worse. It hurt to lift objects with my palm facing up, it hurt to open things and even to dry my hair. I went in for an MRI arthrogram and they found torn cartilage and a partially torn ligament.

I had surgery last tuesday and will now be out fora about 3 month (my pa says, I'm hoping for less).

So I'm sitting here typing this one handed and wishing I had learned to hit a forehand with a less severe grip!

Too bad about surgery and 3 months :( . I guess you can work on fitness, footwork and tossing and shadow strokes :).

I use a continental grip on forehand and still got the same problem because I was 'experimenting' with leading with the my wrist. Kinda stupid to do this because I could feel the stress on the area as I was experimenting. It took just 2 days for my wrist to hurt. Luckily my injury was minor compared to yours and its about 95% healed after 1 month.

ps.. lesson learned: natural gut and arm friendly racquets do not help with faulty technique and stupid experimentation in my case.

I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I've got the same problem. I'm a 4.5 player and never experienced this pain before. My problem started when I took the summer off last year, then came back in September to play some doubles.

I went all out and started feeling some sharp pains on the outside of the wrist (near the pinky finger tendon). I believe it was lack of a proper warm up after not having played in so long. I've had the pain now for 8 months. I now have to tape it before I play.

I may have to take another summer off for this baby to heal.:?

1) if it still hurts after playing, definitely ice is 2-3 times..
2) In between, when you are not playing tennis and if it is not hurting, make sure to do all the wrist/forearm strengthening exercises. Start with 1-3 lb weights and lots of reps. I am now at 5 lb.
3) I was 95% healed in 1 month.. the last 5% seems like it will take another 6 months :) There is no pain, but if I probe/massage the area, I can feel a bit more compared to my left wrist.

omgosh im a begginner n i been having the same problems!! my right wrist hurts just as you guys explained it wus due to the fact i kept flicking my wrist when hittin forehands XD dumb mistake! then recently due to this racket i wus using it had poly strings!! omgosh after one week of play it F'ed up my wrist! it felt as if i sprained it. to make matters worst my left hand wus recently sprained!!!! talk about my luck lol

Sounds like you've an inflammed Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex. Painful? Yes, indeed, and the pain is telling you something - STOP USING ME!! Best get it checked out by your doctor, or better yet a sportsmedicine specialist. Trauma in the TFC can cause swelling, and the swelling causes the pain. Ice it frequently, and above all else, take it easy for a while. Cortisone injections have helped with my TFC issues, but I need to be more careful shoveling or lifting things too heavy for the joint.

Rest and ice are your biggest friends right now. Take some time off and let it heal, or get a cortisone shot, wait a week, and try tennis very slowly.

Brother, I frickin' feel your frickin' pain. No fun at all.
