Sascha Zverev and Carlos Ferrero in a war of words over their coaching split.

Well this isn't good.

Sascha said this in a press conference yesterday:

"There was a moment where he (Carlos Ferrero) was very disrespectful towards everybody in my team. That's why I had to stop that relationship."

https://twitter.com/PrinceSascha123/status/969441572436590593

Ferrero responded to Zverev by publicly saying that Sascha kept arriving late to his practice sessions. ‘I tried to teach him some discipline and humility.

Got this from an article translation:

"What I asked him from the first day is respect for the team, among other things I asked him to be a little more punctual, telling him that it was not right that he would arrive 20 or 30 minutes late to training day after day. A little more discipline would be very good to improve tenistically, he explains.

Ferrero has a good memory of his beginnings with Zverev: "The first months he was more disciplined and respectful, but when he got confidence he no longer respected the guidelines that I marked as at the beginning".

The Spanish, however, is left with the good of the experience that meant for him to train one of the great promises of world tennis."I am left with the experience of having helped him win his first two Masters: in Rome I advised him by telephone, and in Canada, in person, with the title of Washington, for me it was a great joy. Little, I have said in the press that I am a great worker, which is what I was taught: work, discipline, humility and respect for others. "

Haven't read the comments in Marca Tenis since... 6 years. And I guess it hasn't changed at all.
Anyways, Ferrero is right that Zverev got extremely arrogant after beating an injured Federer in Montreal and considered himself the new world king. Guess what, hasn't reached a goddamn final since then. Well deserved.

Lol. I hate Novak and Fed for not being 100% in those finals. Ugh
Indeed. He's won two Masters by virtue of showing up on the day.

If only the long-suffering Berdych and Tsonga had had such luck during all those years. Instead they always had to face prime, world-beating Federer and Djokovic.

Watch as Z does nothing in slams yet again this year.

Zverev is someone who really does need to spend more time training. Kid can barely handle B05. Look at how he crumbles at slams (bagelled in the 5th set by Chung at the AO), he was lucky to escape De Minaur at the Davis Cup as well. Really only won that one cause his opponent was such a newcomer.

Zverev won’t threaten anyone at slams til he gets his act together. Winning Masters is all nice and cute but not having a slam QF? It’s getting embarrassing.

Hmmm.....

Zverev: "There was a moment where he (Carlos Ferrero) was very disrespectful towards everybody in my team".

Ferrero: "What I asked him (Zverev) from the first day is respect for the team".

I wonder if by "respect for the team" each guy really meant "respect for me"? Looks as if this relationship foundered on lack of mutual respect!

Have you ever worked with kids?

That's all Z is at this point, a big kid. A guy who was once #1 in the world asks him to show up on time, and he is consistently late - well, that's the story.

That would make me furious too.

Probably Z was a jerk, and his team (in this case read "family") probably made excuses for him.

Sounds to me like an entitled little *****.

You know, I've noticed how lots of people on here are always making excusing for guys like Zverev, Kyrgios etc. on the grounds of their youth. "He's only young, he'll grow out of it" blah blah blah. Then, all of a sudden, they're no longer so young anymore but still acting like entitled jerks!

Fact of the matter is that many of the former top guys were disciplined hard workers right from the get go despite their youth and it soon paid off in terms of Slams and rankings. You start as you mean to go on. Once an entitled jerk always an entitled jerk IMO!

Berdman and Tsonga did both win Paris. Jo beat Nalbandian and Berdych beat Ljubicic IIRC.

Paris was always a bit weaker as a masters tourney but still.

zverev makes tomic look humble

Tomic arrived very late in his hometown tournament's final (Rosebowl championship 2010) and he made his opponent Mark Draper and the audience wait for too long. I saw him jogging along the road just before the final started. It wasn't as if he had a transport problem or anything. He was already there nearby the tennis club. The opponent arrived, sitting and waiting with the umpire and the audience. We all were wondering where he was.

I don't even care if they're jerks at this point, but I do expect to see hardwork and competitive fire.

There's an ocean between Kyrgios and Zverev. Kyrgios doesn't act like he feels he's entitled to win. He doesn't pretend to be better than anyone else. Zverev pretends every match he's ever played was on his racket and then proceeds to act like a 14 year old girl who's dad didn't buy concert to a Bieber concert

Their stories are almost compatible if you just modify one thing: Zverev sez Ferrero said something disrespectful to the whole team. That makes it sound like he dissed the team. But most likely what he did was berate Z in front of the team, and Z couldn't handle it. That's what I suspect happened.

Maybe, but if that was the case you would think his father would say look son...

Maybe JCF was rude to the father about his son’s lateness, which has probably been exaggerated a bit as well.

Could definitely see Zverev being petty like that.

Zverev has a history of having a huge mouth off the court.

Ferrero does not by any means.

Disappointing to read. JCF is a former world number one, a slam champion. To have such a player as my coach would be something I would take extremely seriously and with the greatest respect, considering just how much knowledge and understanding of what it takes to be a champion that he could instill in me. It seems Z didn't even learn the basics properly...showing up on time.

I’m inclined to agree with this. KGY if anything seems self-inflicted, to me it’s more relatable, therefore understandable.

I don’t know these guys personally, but between the two KGY is the more interesting to follow/root for.

I used to think I had no hate towards any of the players.

Then along came Sascha Zverev..
I hope this whiny brat never wins a match again in his life.

Savage. Did he have your missus or something?
