Scary!

Ok, yesterday (4th day owning my nSix-One 95) I was playing a match and on the serve, the racquet slipped out of my hands (sweat), bounced off the hard court and slid all the way to the net. OMG!!! I run up to the net to check on my baby and there isn't a fracture to be found. YAY. I thought I killed her. That was a really close call and from now on, I will wear a sweat band and overgrip all the time to keep my hands from getting slippery and sweaty.

Does anyone else have any horror stories with your racquets or other gear?

johnmcc516,

just a suggestion, but if you're using a white grip (not an overwrap but a full grip) I'd consider changing it to something in a darker colour. Light coloured grips have a tendancy to get slick far quicker than something dark. I have absolutely no idea why but it seems to be a common complaint. If your grip is just a touch too small or too large then the problem is exaggerated. Where I live can get quite humid and all the guys using nCodes have found a similar problem and gone to overwraps or changed the original grip.

Well, as far as your "horror story" request goes: I did break one when it slipped out of my hand right at the follow through of a smash. This was at a concrete court in Italy and the racket broke at the 9 o'clock position.... That's it. Scared? :)

Regards,
Maurice

The grip on the nCode is black, and my order of Wilson Pro overgrips come in today. So I shouldn't have anymore problems with slipping. I will also get a wrist sweat band to catch some of the moisture as well. (plus they look cool)

Have you tried Tourna Grip? It's the only grip that doesn't slip for me.

Hmm, you seem like you never would throw a racquet...

But for others, my doubles partner (our number 1) likes to throw his racquet, but doesn't want to damage it, so he throws it right into the net, so the net catches the racquet...

Except last match, he threw it too high and almost hit the other team...

I had a very scary moment with my racquets a couple of weeks ago. I have 2 brand new Babolat PD+ and I went to play with some friends. One of them didn't have a racquet so I let her use one of mine. We were playing doubles and I clearly called "I GOT IT" when the ball came to our side. This girl came up behind me (and so of course I didn't see her coming) and SMACK! both of my babies slammed against eachother so hard! I was so freaked out. I didn't even wanna look at the racquets, afraid of what I might find. They're okay but one of them has a little chip in it. I'm so upset. I always take such good care of all my stuff! Needless to say, she won't be using my babies again. :(

I once broke the racquet of a friend hitting a serve under a basket tab (yeah... we where playing tennis on a basket court).
btw, I'm surprised Mies found a concrete court here in Italy... ;-)

I broke a Yonex frame at 2 o'clock while hitting (err... actually framing) a forehand. Now, I *would* like to think I hit so powerfully as to break frames, but it probably already had a defect. Good think is, I was not liking that frame at all :)

Well, I looked very closely at the racquet, and didn't notice any cracks or hairline fractures, and it didn't sound like it cracked when it hit the ground. So I got really lucky.

I tend to take good care of my gear too. The only scratches you will see on my racquets are from low balls that cause me to scrape the pavement a little bit.
