South Carolina 4.0 state tourney

Anybody going to the SC 4.0 state tourney in Charleston next weekend? And when will the schedule be coming out??

I'm on a team that will be in the tourney.

So, I take it there are no 4.0's on this board that are going to the 4.0 state tourney in Charleston South Carolina??

Nope. It doesn't seem like there are that many SC people here at all. Good luck this weekend. Two of my friends wives will be there this weekend for 2.5 womens states. I'm stuck going to Greenville for the third year in a row.

A bunch of my buddies from Rock Hill are going. We're on the same team for Interclub but opposing teams for USTA. I would go to cheer them on, but I'm eight months prego. Have some fried oysters at The Wreck for me if you're going!

They have a shot if they play well, of course. They have a lot of good players on their team, but we don't have much competition up here. We can't really draw from our entire region, because we're right up against the state line and Charlotte is right across it. We do have a fair number of Charlotte players who play in our league, but not enough to expand the league to increase the level of competition dramatically.

I heard that the Myrtle Beach/Florence and Charleston teams are pretty good as well, especially looking at Charleston's records and their local competition. Does Rock Hill have to face either one of them?

UPTA(Greenville) and SATA(Spartanburg) both have strong 4.0 leagues. You can't take anybody for granted or you won't get out of your round-robin group. Good luck all.

Go to www.sctennis.com. Under Latest News, select the item that says Adult League Championship Draw: 2.5, 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0 and click on Read Full Story. From there, you can open up the schedules for each of the levels of competition.

Are Jeff Young and Arthur Ravenel lll currently playing 4.0? I played against their teams in the early 90's. The Charleston Tennis Center seems like a happening place. Wish we had a good public center. Good luck this weekend. Should be tough competition.

I've seen where Ravenel got bumped to 4.5 and heard that Jeff Young had a stroke about a year ago and is now a 3.5 becuase of his stroke/limited mechanics.

robby c: Which 3.5 team were you on?

Budda: Are you playing in the Rock Hill area and on one of the 4.0 teams??

Sorry to hear about Jeff. Its good that he can play again.
Arthur had strong teams in the 90's. Especially strong singles. He was also a good sport, and made sure everybody had a cold beer while our deciding match was played. Hope your opponents this weekend are as gracious.

I followed the 4.0 matches at State. Alot of tough ones. My local team lost their group 10-8 in the Super-tiebraker in the deciding Dbls match. 2 points decided their whole season. Harsh, but real exciting.
My 3.5 team stays at home. My league champ and the other Upstate champs both have good teams. Had an old friend approach me tonight about a serious Ind team for next year. Dreams die hard don't they.
