Test: Can In/out device be used as a cheap hawk eye?

Hi, there has been a lot of interest about the in/out device for line calling. I have tested the devices using 1 new version 3.0 and 2 version 2.0 devices as well as the line devices. You can see the results under
.
my conclusion is that 2 paired net devices can be used as a cheap hawk eye to decide if a ball was in or out by using the replay function. The automated line calling itself produces too many errors but the replay function is optimal to check balls close to the line. You should always use the net device closest to the ball you want to review. You have to decide yourself based on the replay if the ball was in or out, the decision of the device is not always correct.

Hi Rooki,
As I said it is not sufficient reliable as an automated line calling, however we use regularly the replay function which is a very accurate means to decide whether a ball is in or out. It stops any dispute about it. I think this is not bad at all.

Interesting findings. I have owned and used V1 since they became available and find the line calling feature works. Most of my testing is done during practice and when I use these in a match (set of 2, net post devices), I have yet to see enough errors to count.
In the bigger picture, if these do make line call errors, they do it equally for both sides so all players are treated fairly.

Has anyone tried them at night on clay or HarTru?

Being at the net post, it seems to be too low angle to see the baselines and opposite corner. Try crowching down at the net post and look at the baseline with your eyes.

Are there that many disputes in your matches that people feel the need to challenge the call to the point of delaying the match and fuss with a replay??

Simpler and faster is to credit the caller with making the call they see. And same with you. You make the best call you can and move on to the next point.

But if you are playing with a line cheat, or you yourself make calls biased to you....then that's a different issue. Not sure a replay fixes that character flaw.

Okay, I tried my units on clay (HarTru). Nope. Daytime was better but not nearly as good as the hardcourt. Night on HarTru was a lesson in futility but we did have fun betting on what call the In/Out would make

I am just wondering if a recreational match ever gets so important it justifies that delay. Most people just prefer to call it either way or replay the point which may still spend less time and get on with it

I've met a few men who are too willing to argue line calls yet most are happy to move on. I have yet to use the In/Out line call devices when playing with the guys who like to argue points because I am sure they would even argue a video replay.
