Have you never played tennis?? A swinging volley from the baseline??!! If you're volleying at the baseline it means that ball was about to fly way long, and it would be your point. People volley back balls that would be long during practice to keep a rally going, but to do it as a matchtime routine shot? No way!

Ok, forgot about this post for awhile, but here's my response. I'm not talking about taking balls out of the air while standing on the baseline, I'm talking about stepping into the court and snapping off a shot inside the baseline. It takes away time from your opponent. Right now lots of players do this off short balls that would otherwise be volleys or approach shots. What I'm talking about is taking this shot a little further back and hitting it off balls that would land 2-3 feet inside the baseline. I've seen Agassi do it, but it takes very fast feet and acceleration. Give it a try next time you get a deep floater, it's a pretty effective shot that will catch your opponent off guard.

How many of these "floaters" do you expect to get from a higher level player? And if you are standing inside the baseline and a good player gets a good whack at the ball, you'll be watching it go by you because the bounce is critical to giving you time to reach the shot.

Whether it is swing volley or not, I'm hoping to see
some evolution of S&V game. If we're not going to do S&V
any more, some evolution of "net game", I'm waiting for
a "neo" in that.
