Nicole Vaidisova has all the talent to be the next big thing in womens tennis I believe. She showed that tremendous talent today against Serena Williams. Even an out of shape Serena Williams, when is the last time you saw a set end with an opponent almost double the clean winners of her-18 to 10, just doesnt ever happen ever! Her technique on the serve and groundies is exceptional, her movement is getting better all the time, it is no worse then Sharapova who like Nicole is long and lanky and not the best mover, her return of serve is excellent, her placement and direction on her shots is superb, and she absorbs power so well it is hard to penetrate through her as even Serena found at times today.
What she lacks is the maturity and focus at the critical points of a match. It cost her the French Open when she totally blew her semifinal vs Kuznetsova after serving for it in the 2nd set. It cost her today vs Serena, losing a service game where she was up an early break and had 2 aces-you cant let yourself lose serve with 2 aces after being up an early break, then on set point later letting a ball go that she could have gotten thinking it would clip the net-you have to be ready for those shots. Then her attitude stunk from there and she just let it slip away, although she fought back a bit in the 2nd after she had regained some composure, it was too little too late.
I wonder if the coaching is the problem, or if she just needs more experience in these situations. Her lack of composure, maturity, and poise under pressure is really what is costing her the chance to win big title right now.
