When strings go dead...

Hey, Ive had a similar situation developed when using Babolat Hurricane Pro and the new Bab Revenge string. At first they feel great, maybe more so with the Revenge, which I thought was a great string, but after a while it feels weird, I could actually say I dont 'feel' anything anymore. Is this what a "dead string" is all about? Ive read that the new co-polys hold tension very well, that they dont stretch as much. Is this why they go dead at the end? I didnt have this 'feeling' with my old, cheap Gosen Poly Ice on mains and Gosen OG sheep on crosses. I did feel that the string got looser, but didnt ever feel like there was nothing on the string.

So, is this the catch of having strings that maintain tension, meaning that after a while theyll loose all that makes them great?

I don't think it's so much that the strings loose tension, but more that the strings loose their elasticity. A string can keep its elasticity, while losing quite some of its tension, and therefore still be playable and feel pretty comfortable.

Many in here don't seperate the loss of tension to the loss of elasticity - in my and other tennis freaks view, they should do so :)

With that being said, the first and second generation polys had a tendency to loose all of playability very fast.
If you like Mono poly strings, you should look at some of the 4.th generation Copolys, that are out now - they play well for at least 12-15 hours and more, if you don't break before that of course.

Signum Tornado, Signum Hyperion, WeissCannon TurboTwist, WeissCannon Silverstring, MSV Focus Hex, MSV HeptaTwist, Signum Pro Poly PLASMA, Tecnifibre BlackCode, Kirschbaum Pro Line II, KIRSCHBAUM SPIKYSHARK - and I have probably forgotten some...... But if you want good playability for more than 5-8 hours, forget and AVOID Pro Hurricane strings and all Luxilon strings (I've tested them all)

^ yeah, noticed that with Pro Hurricane. I have the bad habit of never cutting my string........ so I guess thats my answer. Bab Pro Hurricane feels very bad after a while, and I have gotten that bad, 'no-feel' with the Revenge as well, although it played well for a longer time IMO, maybe because its a 17g.
