I don't know. When will a man who isn't Swiss or Serbian, or Spanish win a slam again. It took the British like 90 years give us a break.

20 years ago you could have asked when will a man who isn't American or Swedish or Australian or German win a Slam again?

Not quite...Spanish, Austrian, Dutch, Brazilian, Russian, Czech and Croatian players won slams in each of the year's from 1993-2001.

Well, I did say the last 20 years, not 25 but I take your point. :)

Thinking about it, only 6 nationalities have won Slams in the last decade: Swiss, Spanish, Serbian, Argentinian, British and Croatian.

20 years ago is smack dab in the middle of that streak. Just in 1998 alone, there were Czech and Spanish champions.

Yes, the hegemony celebration by slam champions of the past decade is a party of seven, with only tiny Switzerland having dual representation. If you go back four more years, add a seat for another Argentinian.

Which makes it nine years next month since anyone from outside Europe won a slam. European domination in both football/soccer and tennis has come back with a vengeance.

Man, even freaking Canada looks in a better shape to snag a Slam sooner than the US. Must be the subsidized dairy...

Canada definitely looks better placed in the medium to long run, because of Shapovalov and Aliassime, and even Raonic could yet have a Wawrinka-esque late career surge. But in the short to medium term, Isner's chances are a lot higher than those of any Canadian. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that Isner could snag the US Open 2018 or one of the non-clay Slams next year.

Possibly... Isner has indeed had some great non-Slam runs but he still doesn't convince me over 7 five-setters. I'd still take Raonic as a better bet (granted, he's been pretty abysmal recently) even though he just lost to Big John.

Raonic might be a better bet to win a Slam at some point than Isner, especially as he is five years and eight months younger than Isner. I was originally going to say just the US Open and next year's Australian as the time frame in which Isner is a better bet, and I think I stand by that, as Raonic, although moving in the right direction, seems to me as though he needs until the spring hard-court season to be right back to where he needs to be. And Shapovalov and Aliassime are unlikely to challenge for Slams for another couple of years (probably more in Aliassime's case).

This Sunday. Del Potro has a shot at this tournament. He is American. Argentina is one of the prominent nations in The Americas.

Sí, si, si...
I am claiming Juanito.

Olé olé olé olé. DelPo. dellllPoh!

When will a Russian win a slam again? When will a German? When will a Swedish guy? When will an Aussie? When will a French guy win? Will a Chinese or Japanese guy ever win. We all need to know.

When adventurers discover the Fountain of Youth, take a sample, and stuff it in Andy Roddick's self depreciating mouth. Meanwhile, another brave heart on an epic quest recovers Roddick's Godzilla Forehand from it's final resting place, and sacrifices 72 time his own body weight in Swiss goat cheese in a ritual to resurrect the RGF

This poll gonna look depressing as all hell in 2034.

Yes Tiafoe and even Fritz COULD win a Slam but I don't think they WILL win anything.

I fully disagree. They will win delray beach. And Memphis if it existed. And maybe that new york open... the one in uniondale, and now randall's isle. Possibly indy, but that's a longshot.

United States has a very strong chance of winning a slam in the next couple of years but to do so they need to invade and take over Canada and force American citizenship on them..
Yes/Oui!
Also South America. We need Jarry, delpo, et al. I am American, and I also retroactively claim gabi Sabatini, maria Bueno, guillermo Vilas and guga kuerten, btw. Actually not retroactively....I always have identified them nonconsensually, as Americans.
Also with this whole team world LaverCup concept, we got paddy rafter, cash, sedgeman, fraser, hoad, laver, rosewall, hewitt, kyrgios, kokkinakkis, flipper, and newk. And nishiSan.
So myeah, we're doin graet!

Americans are too soft. But probably one of the most privileged players has the best chance and that goes to Fritz. I'm sure his folks brought him up with a proper winning mentality, his game is getting better, he's got the look and he's so chill that the pressure put on good Americans won't get to him.

Thank you. I do not know much about taylor harry fritz or his people.
So, Fritz is Privileged ... meaning...
His family finances?
Good perspective in upbringing?
His opportunities with the usta?
All of the above?

His mother Kathy May Fritz was a Top 10 player, and his father Guy Henry Fritz also played professional tennis and was named US Olympic development coach of the year 2016.[3] He reached the finals in boys' singles at the 2015 French Open, and lost to fellow American Tommy Paul in three sets. He avenged the loss by defeating Paul in the boys' singles final at the 2015 US

Seems like a leg up to me, but more so for experience and champion mentality than sugar daddy paying for lessons. I think he'll do the best of the Americans long term. Seems a bit dull, but his leading man looks will open a lot of doors and sponsorships.

I think the Bryans have a good shot at winning one sometime this year, hopefully Bob is full strength now.

Around 2023. It will come after a long court case and the WTA will be forced to allow a transgendered male to compete in the US Open women's draw. That person will win the tournament easily.

Isner has been the US hope at 6'10" for the last years, with some good showings lately. He even won a M1000 last year, but it seems it's not enough.
Now we had a change of guard in this AO R1 match, so all eyes on Smiley Opelka at 7'0"; but honestly I think he will come short. He already lost in R2.
I believe that the US needs to produce a player at least 7'2" tall to get things done.

After 2024+ 5 years; Zev, Shapo, Khachinov, Thiem (at Roland Garros) and Tsitsipas will be the new slam winners once big 3 are done.

To paraphrase from rick linklater in dazed and confused....
Yeah man, my grandma is 7'2", 260,
Runs a 4.2 forty.

No American male tennis has the talent, ability, or stamina to win a Slam. Roddick got very lucky in 2003, but managed to do it.
It has been , almost 16 years since that win, and no one in sight to repeat that accomplishment.

Roddick is crazy cause he was one player away from winning like 6 and one point away from not winning any.

Roddicks talent is very underrated, especially considering how the much inferior Kyrgios keeps getting hyped to the high heavens
