I guess I would say Nadal by default since the ideal scenario is neither wins another major. Though I must say it feels more appropriate to me that Novak finishes ahead. He has the most well-rounded resume, most time at number one, etc. If anyone deserves to be undisputed GOAT (or as close to it as we can reasonably get), it's Djokovic, though I'm not especially excited to actually watch it happen tournament by tournament.

I'd say Djokovic.

Nadal lulled Federer into a false sense of "camaraderie" and "succession" costing him a couple of slams here and there.

Novak is the best story, though if he and Rafa tie it would bring the most joy to my heart.

Djokovic because he was my second favourite in Big 3. Also he has got more complete game than Nadal and he is real successor to Fed when it comes to consistency, dominance, versatility and all-round records. Remove his best Slam (AO) - he still has got second most dominant Slam at Wimbledon with 7 titles. Remove AO - he still has got 12 Slams. OTOH Nadal is heavily dependent on his clay supremacy. Remove Clay - he is left with just 8 Slams and at second most dominant Slam he has got just 4 titles.

If you're going to judge by surface alone, you need to remove Djokovic's 3 US Opens too...

Still he comes on top. Hard court makes 50% of Slams. He has won 57℅ of Slams on hard. OTOH Clay makes 25% of Slams and yet Nadal has won his 63% of his Slams on clay.

Djokovic is the better player overall, better in 2 out of 3 surfaces, better in non-slam stats, and I’d prefer he ended up GOAT. The only reason Nadal is slam leader is because of Djokovic’s insanity. The only reason the h2h between them is as close as it is is because they stopped meeting outside of clay.

How easily you say "just" when its so hard to even feature in the main draw of a slam! :)

Voted Nadal, he's classy, respects science, doesn't injure linespeople, doesn't think water can be mind controlled and is a great guy all round.

Hope to see him atop the GOAT race. (barring a Federer huge comeback of course ;))
At Wimbledon, the vaccinated guys got infected with Covid and had to pull out as opposed to the unvaccinated guy :-D
As for Nadal, I wouldn't say he's necessarily classy or nice by design. His Uncle Toni was a drill sergeant who basically abused and tormented Nadal growing up which scarred Nadal for life and turned him into the person he is. One example; Nadal playing videogames with his friends and this old fool comes in and pulls the plug.
Nadal hates his guts personally.

It’s truly only on this forum where complete and utter domination of a slam is a con.

Even removing that astronomical, record book level of domination at the French - 8 slams off clay is literally better than Agassi, a legend of the game…

Still far worse compared to Djokovic and Federer - who both have got 12 Slams off their pet Slam.

Djokovic, but I care 0,1% less every day. If the records stands at 23 or 24 even the GOAT debates will never end and all of Nadal, Djokovic, Federer will still be blended together as a trio as the numbers will be too tight.

Shouldn’t true Fed fans want Fed to have the slam record?
Why would you want someone else to have it? If I was Fed I would be on a pharmacy full of undetectable doping to break the slam record LOL. I wouldn’t sit there and go “oh well!! You two guys just left me in the dust”

to answer the question, probably Nadal due to personal preference. although I do think Nole is the better player overall.
