Haha, point I'm trying to make is that alot of people say that Murray's slice is the best part of his game.

First of all - that's pretty sad because it doesn't matter how good your slice is - a slice is never a weapon or even any part of any useful tactic in today's power game.

Secondly, Murray's slice isn't even anywhere near as good as Nadal or Djokovic's - and both of their slices are nothing special for the top 20 either. Although Nadal's comes from a lefty so may possibly be unusual for other players to deal with.

This is a non starter I'm a djoker fan and I admit Murray has easily the best slice of all two handers on tour it's a good shot but he over plays it. Djoker would rather drive his backhand and maintain pressure on his opponent rather than slice and then get attacked.

murray. Also, nadal having a good slice is a moot point. Pros have seen lefty slices before i'm sure and his isn't even a penetrating slice. Its a defensive high floating slice. They'll only probably get slightly caught off guard on his first slice

Nadal without a doubt.

It's not one of the greatest in historical terms, obviously.
However, it is certainly underrated, he has really improved his slice over the last 5 years. It's genuinely good and can be used offensively, however he doesn't usually do that, but he actually has remarkable control with his slice, especially on up the line passes.

Djokovic's slice to me just looks awful, and Murray, well his is ok, but he doesn't use it properly in my opinion.

Murray's, he keeps it low. He has a good forehand slice too.

Nadal's is underrated becasue he always uses his slices in difficult situations (eg against deep, fast balls). If he slices a normal rally ball, I'd bet it would stay pretty low.

Have you seen Harrison approach the net with his nasty slice? There is still a use for it today....and what? Djokovic's has a pretty bad slice, Nadal's is good at times, but Murray, without a doubt, has the best slice out of all of them. Djokovic is my favorite player out of that bunch of players too, but the slice isn't his thing at all.

It's depressing how people with no knowledge or understanding of modern tennis can take up forum space with such inane ideas.

Nadal's slice is fantastic, especially on grass. Out of those 3... Nadal. Remember the slice WINNER he hit against Fed at Wimby? When he's using it because he's being outplayed and he rushes it, it sucks. When he's playing well, it stays low and is VERY effective.

haha today in my match, it seemed that everytime i hit a slice bh my opponent would hit a winner off of it...btw neither djoker or nadal have good slices, guys like feli lopez or alex dolgopolov outclass all the players in this poll w/that shot ..of all people :)

Murray_Hater_182 - how did his thread work out for you?

The lengths that some bitter England football fans will go to just to abuse Murray is quite funny.

LOL.at the people who think Nadal or Djoko's slice is better than Murray. LOL LOL LOL.

Murray's slice is vastly superior to these 2. While Nadal sometimes does well on grass and fasterhardcourts with his slice - many times he just loops the ball back as a defensive play to give himself more time. His followthrough on the slice changes as per his confidence. Several times he doesn't give enough underspin to the shot and doesn't even complete the downward motion of the racquet.

That's exactly what I was trying to say. When Rafa IS playing well and is confident though, I think his slice is the best out of the 3 mentioned.

I have seen both players live, Murray by far has the superior slice, it's stays lower, and it penetrates the court much better.

Ok Nadal hit a slice winner on Federer, that does not necessarily prove he has the best out of three. Can he make an effective slice on a consistent basis, I think not. Murray on the other hand can use the slice effectively and consistently, however he over does by using it too much. I don't see Djokovic slice often, but when he does I've never seen that effective as far as what I've watched from him, he has some moments, but I rarely see him go for a slice rather than his drive.

not even close to murray's.....

Murray's slice >> nadal's slice > djoker's slice

But also a bit disturbing! At what point does he cross the line from trolling to Gunter Parche??

Murray, no question about it. At all.

While I'm happy he's improved on it a lot over the years, Nadal's is actually quite embarrassing.

Is Murray's slice really THAT much better than Djokovic's? I know we can't base this analysis on just one video, but based on all their matches (that I watched) it seems to me that Djokovic may float his slice a bit while Murray leaves his a bit short. When on the run, Murray floats his slice short as well.

EDIT: Skipped to a point that has more slice backhands: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQpKJYhjEcA&t=0m53s

Court level view replay of a slice Djoker hit earlier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQpKJYhjEcA&t=0m22s

The best slice belongs to Federer. Murray's is the (distant) second.

There is a huge gap between Murray and Nadal, and another huge gap between Nadal and Djokovic. That's top 4 - there are some amazing slices outside of top 4 (Lopez's comes to mind).

I am not sure which is Djokovic's worst shot: the slice, or the overhead smash (he has an unusually high probability of netting the smash or sending it out - perhaps because he has generally been weak overhead, including the serve - until recently).
