why do you care what brands the pros use (apparel)

I guess this is more of a question in general about fashion trends, but I'm seriously curious about this.

I'm looking for someone who has good insight into their own motivation, thought processes, and behaviour, to explain to me why they feel the need to purchase and wear clothing that is used by the pros?

An alternative method is to just buy things that look good on you, and that suit you.

Well in my opinion, some people believe that if a pro is wearing it, then it must magically be the best kind. When I first started I wanted to use the same brand rackets as my favorite players. Now I've come to find I actually prefer a Prince racket over my old Wilson or a Head racket. There is my input on the topic.

Racquets and shoes are understandable as if 'so and so' uses 'such and such' you know it works (i.e. the racquet is good quality and the shoes won't injure your feet, generally speaking.)

Re brands and apparel in general, that's less easy to explain in functional terms. Most brands make decent shorts/tops/socks etc, no reason to wear what your favourite player does unless you're a bit, erm, sad or something.

Yeah I agree with Xenakis. I can understand racquets considering I used to be like that. And shoes makes sense too. But I can also buy a pair of all around New Balance shoes (lol) at the mall that work perfectly fine. And as for shirts and shorts, just wear whats comfortable, I'm sure that's what they look for in the clothes too.

I don't really care, because they are in a total different level that i am,what is good for me may not be good for them or vice-versa,and i change my rackets anyway for my liking and taste.

personal preference, really. I just buy them if they look good. Here in my country, nobody will notice cause tennis isn't really popular.

If i dressed like a pro, I'd be laughed off the court. Bandannas and bright fancy colors...etc... Gear yes, clothes, no way.

My man your looking way too deep into this....I think its more of people seeing something they like on a pro, and then looking for where to find it.

I only wear what get I paid to wear, unless I can find it CHEAP!

Therefore, I'm usually dressed in snappy CHEAP attire.

As for rackets (I have been out of the game for 20 years, just getting back into it), I tried my buddies racket on my first trip back out on the court......I liked it well enough so I bought three. No sense in demo-ing a bunch of rackets for me.....grab one that works and learn how to use it.

Hit the nail on the head.

This works as a good starting point. Nike's investment in indorsements is definitely working...

But I mean if they look good on the pros, wouldn't you be more inclined to go out and buy it. That's all it really is, Nike, Adidas, etc, go out and find guys to wear there gear, they manufacture shirts with nice designs and colors and people go out and buy them up.

Personally I can't fit into Nike and Adidas, they do not cater to Big and Tall people at all. So I can't wear the gear the pros wear. I also have wide feet, so it's a no go on the Nike and Adidas shoes, I really only wear New Balance.
