Will Nadal complete a career grand slam?

For 2 years or so, I have never thought Rafa would ever win a hard court slam so when he won the Australian Open this year, I was extremely suprised. Of course these forums after seeing this, were already posting threads like "will nadal complete a calender slam" and "is that it for federer" etc...NOW after the French, these ludicrous forums are now posting "is this the downfall of nadal" and "federer is goat now" etc...

With all this talk over one match that nadal lost, it is probably too early to say if Nadal will win the USO but just for fun do you think he will this year or in the future? discuss.

I don't see why not. And he probably won't need the stars to be aligned for him to win it unlike this year's FO.

I think Nada will win the USO once. Sort of the same way that Fed won the FO, Phaggassi won Wimbledon etc. If Nada can just hang around long enough, sooner or later there will be that one year when Fed is slightly injured and Murray and Djoker get taken out early somehow...and the path to the trophy will be clear enough for him to step through and take it. He just has to be able to stay in the running until that moment. (and I am no Nada fan).

I don't see why not, Federer won the French Open without having to face Nadal, who's saying Nadal doesn't get a favourable draw in the future and pull off some epic escapes against better hardcourt players than himself.

There some people who could take him out of the USO and if he doesn't manage his schedule better in the coming years it will be harder and harder

Yes, but he needs to work hard, because I think Murray and Djoker on hard are tough competition. At the same time, he needs to stay healthy. With the knees he has right now, I can't see him winning. But he won AO, so why not have a shot at USO? I think he can do it.

He can do it, but it would be very difficult. By the time the USO rolls around, Nadal is usually beat up from the long season.

And there are a lot of players who can take Nadal out on HC, if they are playing well, and if Nadal isn't playing his A-game.

But of course, it's possible. I think that if he can last long enough, keep on giving himself chances like Federer did at the FO, he will eventually get one.

Federer won the FO so anything's possible. I think he'll do it.

I think he will. Roger is the favorite for the US Open and Murray and Djokovic are right up there too, but Nadal proved he can do anything if he plays his best. It'll be tough, as the US Open is Nadal's worst surface. Last year he looked really uncomfotable there, he had tough time against Pau, lost sets to Fish and Querry before losing to Murray in 4.

I think he has a good chance to win it, but I think one of the reasons he hasn't so far is that he plays so many matches during the spring clay and grass seasons.

Was the same story with AO,he won it.The problem is that he's usually exhausted when North America HC season starts.If he manages to have a light schedule and his knees don't betray him,he has a chance.If Fed could win FO then...

If he choses his schedule right that way he's not banged up when the US Open comes, he might win it.

He can winning it, even this year, but he has to sacrifice some, like his #1 ranking, if he wants to be in the right shape to do it.

I thought that Fed would never win the FO solely because of Nadal and the fact that he is approaching 30 y/o. I thought by the time Nadal lost in the FO, Fed would be too far out of his prime to win it. Fed won the FO in 2009 against all odds. It was as if it was his destiny.

Nadal faces more than one threat at the USO. Federer, Djokovic, Murray, Roddick, Del Potro, etc. are all very capable of beating Nadal on a hard court. In addition, Nadal is usually battling knee problems on hard courts. Prior to the AO, I would've said Nadal would never win the career slam, but now I think its possible, maybe like 50/50. But the biggest problem is the number of threats he must overcome is much larger than Fed's threats at the FO.
